Multiple Buses Arrive Together
Multiple Buses Arrive Together
West 23 St - 7 Ave - 8 Ave

Something that can be implemented right now at no cost is to stop what the MAT calls "bus bundling". When three buses arrive behind each other going East on 23rd Street & 7th Avenue - the first bus should proceed across the Avenue, while the Second Bus wait for one red-light on the west-side. When the light changes Second bus should proceed and Third bus should wait for one Red Light. This would significantly alleviate bus-bundling. I have requested this of the MTA several times and am always told, "it cannot be done, since the buses are on a schedule". That is a JOKE! This particular stop gets a large population of Blind & Visually impaired riders due to the location of Selis Manor on 23rd Street. It is pathetic to observe these same riders, having to wait needless amounts of time when a simple fix is there. If the buses are already "bundling" by the time they get to Seventh Avenue then something is clearly WRONG with said "schedule".

Suffice it to say, in addition to the VA, Disabled and Seniors using the bus, the growth of Chelsea Piers has had a tremendous impact. This route has become vital for thousands of children and families - it is entirely too slow, too crowded and inefficient. Perhaps create an express from Chelsea Piers to some middle point, say 6th Ave or Broadway, during the 4-6pm rush

Cars & delivery trucks park in E. 23 St. & 1sr Ave. because of apt. house & CVS. Bus stop should go back to the east side of 1st Ave. where it was originally. Too much of a problem for seniors with walkers & wheelchairs to cross 1st Ave. for people living in Peter Cooper. And, the bike riders going uptown (correct) and downtown (wrong) has you taking your life in your hands.

Too much space reserved for cars and not enough for pedestrians, bikers and buses. Cars racing through a very busy intersection creates an unsafe situation for all other users.

The service is inadequate for this line. There are many seniors and disabled people including blind people with service animals. This select service may not be easy for them to use or navigate. They may not get seats near the doors. People, unfortunately, who ride this bus are not very helpful towards other riders and we can’t just have a select bus service as many seniors still use their medicare card and coins to pay. If select bus service refuses that, there are no train stations nearby where they can fill their metro cards that provide either an elevator or escalator. This would seriously hamper transit for those who rely on buses and have physical issues. I would favor adding special M23 busses that then proceed up to 42 nd street stopping only at one or two spots on the east side to improve the speed of service up 1st ave especially at rush hours and daytime as many people are going to hospitals on 1 st ave and are missing connections due to traffic and overcrowding on the M23.

Restore the Eastbound M23 bus stop at 5 Ave. This is the best place for transfers with SB 5th Ave. buses, requiring a minimal amount of walking (and street crossing).

COMMENT - i ride the 5th ave buses - e.g., M5 and the SERVICE is completely different than the cross town. The drivers are courteous and they navigate traffic superbly!!! I asked a driver about it and he said they are run by a different depot. SO - please see what they are doing. The crosstown bus is slow poke, very inefficient experience by comparison - learn from the M5!

Buses come at irregular times, often in a group. Boarding takes so long I can still board even when I see the bus when I am still 2 blocks away. We need dedicated lane, smaller and more frequent buses, and the ability to board from all doors like the express buses on 34th street.

A dedicated bus lane would help speed the bus along only if it were enforced.

Crossing town, especially on 23rd should be a breeze, but it is a constant storm to travel through. So many people from the boroughs use this bus route, in addition to those of us who live on the West side here and it get so crowded and the bus goes so slow, if I wasn't disabled I would walk. That Fifth Avenue Broadway, Lexington Aveenue area is in need to serious Dot help. and with 10th Avenue being a major construction mess at 30th street, returning home and going west, that backup goes from 8th avenue up to 10th avenue. There should be a dedicated bus line on 23rd Street before SUMMER!! thanks
