Check satellite view for the pedestrian desire lines and build those out. Make this right turn a right turn, not a speed swoop.
So much unusable, unpleasant green space! Traffic noise, pollution, isolation makes all these spaces sad wasted opportunities that fill with garbage, illegal dumping, homelessness. If the public cannot utilize these spaces, trees and flowering buses would be better than grass. Grass requires watering and mowing and shows garbage. Trees will also help with traffic noise, air quality and temps. Even where people can access the grass lawns, you wouldn't want to hang out there. Of course, if you converted the whole stretch of road from highway design to something like Ocean Parkway that would revolutionize neighborhood access to the space. You could have a bike/ped route, benches, areas to picnic or play games. Having swooping car ramps takes up monstrous amounts of acreage making the areas around it unusable.
This needs to be a hard right turn off Conduit for drivers. With the foot of one of the few ped/bike crossings here vulnerable users are often in the road just out of sight of drivers making swooping right turns.
Very difficult to find this bridge from the north. The route is convoluted and hard to navigate without a bike computer. And then the entrance is a dark, badly designed on ramp with a dangerous lip where you have to make a 90 degree turn before heading up hill. Rough entrance to bridge. Creepy if you're a woman riding alone. But one of the only places to cross so I've used it more times than I can count. Maybe safer from drivers than using Woodhaven/Crossbay, but not necessarily safer and much harder wayfinding.
The long right turn bay is extremely dangerous for cyclists. If you hug the curb drivers will come up from behind you at high speed and cut you off because they feel they've already made their turn. If you stay out in the lane or on the left of the lane drivers you take the chance drivers are going so fast and so tuned out they won't see you, but 100% drivers will lay on their horns and scream and try to shove their way past you instead of just slowing for the few seconds it takes for you to clear the way. If you seek to put a bike route curb side, you must have a stop sign or stop light for drivers. But then, pedestrians probably need that to cross there anyway.
This should be a 90 degree right turn at the light not a swooping unsignaled on ramp that crosses a crosswalk and any through going bike/micro traffic curbside.
This is a terrifying place to drive. So many want to treat this space like part of the highway. It's two lanes which gives everyone an opening to drive aggressively, but the lanes are super narrow and if you are uncertain of your route you could get plowed into by someone who thinks they should be able to 65mpm there. This is a crazy desire line, being both the way off the Belt onto Woodhaven and way out of Howard Beach and onto the Belt, but also used by drivers looking to get around traffic on the Belt. Raw horrifying chaos.
