Electric Charging Station Not Wanted

I am a doctor at The Lenox Hill Hospital and a qresident on east 78th Street. Although I am in favor of electric cars, there should NOT be charging stations on east 78th between Park and Lexington Avenues. I am very familiar with the traffic patterns. Ambulances use East 78th Street between Park and Lexington as a route to take critically ill patients to the ER in Lenox Hill Hospital on 77th Street. Where you have proposed charging stations is already a traffic nightmare with the Allen Stevenson school at the end of the block. The block does not need thr additional traffic that the charging stations will bring. Even if the charging stations do not cause any additional traffic, pulling a car into a parking space always causes delays for the traffic in back of it. Please consider the safety and well being of patients in the ambulances and put the charging stations on a block that has less traffic.

This street is too congested. There are 2 schools and it is an emergency route for ambulances. it is also an eastbound through street for bicycles. This is not the correct location for a charging station. It would be dangerous to put a charging station at this location.

This block is incredibly busy with school and hospital traffic already. It's also a narrower block than others, which leads to extra traffic. Ambulances often go by too, and this will not be helpful to them.

Charging stations should not be installed on east 78th Street between Lexington and Park Avenue. The block is a pathway for ambulances to the ER at Lenox hill Hospital. There is already too much traffic with the Allen Stevenson school. The charging stations will bring more cars to the block that will be looking for charging. Cars that need to get into parking spaces block traffic; critically ill patients in ambulances cannot afford to wait for cars to get parked. There will be more parking activity due to these charging stations. I recommend that the charging stations be put farther east on 78th Street.

Given Construction in the area, ongoing and proposed, it would not wise to place charging stations on 78th between Park and Lex. In addition many hospital employees need paring in the immediate area and given the cost of an electric automobile, I am sure very few if any of the hospital staff can afford an electric car. If a doctor does have an electric car, then the city can place charging stations on Park between 76th and 77th street. This space is already reserved for doctors so should a physican own an electric vehicle they can park his or her car at that location. For these reasons, parking stations should be placed not be placed 0n 78th between Park and Lex.

East 78th between Lexington and Park is very busy with school traffic during the week and often backs up as traffic on Lexington blocks cars trying to exit 78th Street. Ambulances often have a difficult time getting through on their way to Lenox Hill. A charging station will compound the issues that already exist. Charging stations should be further east on a less congested street.

East 78th St between Park and Lexington Ave has an elementary school and the street is very busy particularly during the morning and afternoon with school buses and taxis and Ubers. The street is often backed up with cars that extend onto Park Avenue. Adding more traffic to the street will endanger school kids walking to and from the building. In addition, there is a hospital one block away and ambulances often use this street adding more congestion. Moving the charger to East 79th or East 78th between Park and Madison or another street would eliminate the problem.

This street is already a congestion and noise nightmare thanks to ongoing construction of several nearby buildings as well as the Allen Stevenson school. Worse, drivers looking for charging stations and attempting to park in the charging stations will only make it more difficult for Lenox hill ambulances to access the hospital. The ambulances already have to contend with a great deal of construction traffic, which only exacerbates the noise problem in the area as the ambulance drivers are forced to leave their sirens on for ling periods of time while they try to get close to the ER entrance. Please move the charging stations further east. This block is not a good location.

This morning the Board met and among other things, we discussed the charging stations that the DOT wants to install on East 78th Street between Park and Lexington. While we are supportive of electronic cars, the general consensus was that the charging stations will attract more vehicles to an already congested block. Ambulances that are trying to make their way to the Lenox Hill Hospital entrance on 77th Street already are contending with the increased traffic when the Allen Stevenson School is in session and will further be impeded with the increased activity of cars looking for charging stations.

We do NOT want the two charging stations on East 78th Street, between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. This street is very frequently used by ambulances as they make their to deliver very sick patients to the front entrance of the ER at The Lenox Hill Hospital. The block is already heavily congested with traffic from The Allen Stevenson School. Charging stations will increase the traffic with drivers looking for spaces. Ambulances are already impeded as they make to deliver very sick patients to the ER at The Lenox Hill Hospital. We do NOT need the charging stations to increase the traffic. Please locate the stations farther east of Lexington Avenue.

Placing EV chargers in the parking spots between bike lanes and automobile lanes has several benefits.

For one, the space between a bike lane and an automobile lane are part of the road design itself, unlike parking spots that are subject to alternate side parking. This would allow the chargers to be used constantly, improving the financial feasibility of the charger while also making the charger more useful to the community.

Additionally, the chargers could be installed in the space between the parking spot and the bike lane, where it wouldn’t take up space on sidewalks. This “no mans land” between the bike lane and the parking spot is large enough to fit an EV charger with plenty of extra space so as to not crowd out the bike lane. Chargers could also be install behind or in front of the vehicle, where there is often even more empty space available.

Placing EV chargers in these kinds of locations also gives them more visibility to people looking for a charger since they would be located on the main roads, rather than the slower moving cross streets.

I also think that it makes sense to avoid installing infrastructure on streets with alternate side parking, because these streets should really eventually be completely designed to support wider sidewalks, bike lanes, and additional landscaping. If just one row of parking spots was removed from a street with alternate side parking, it would give back a tremendous amount of public space to regular New Yorkers. As part of that effort, I would love to see EV chargers integrated into the remaining parking spots.

Choosing a parking lot (over curbside) is the best option for EV charging, as most EV owners who live in apartments do not have daily access to charging. They will want to leave their cars until they get a full charge, 4-8 hours, once a week. I can attest to this. I find street parking near my house, and about once a week I need to fully charge the car at a tesla supercharging station.

There is so much traffic and businesses on Coney Island Ave and Cortelyou Rd, it would be great to counter balance that fact at a very busy intersection with a charging station just south of the intersection. Just above the North East corner of the east side of Cortelyou Rd. and Coney Island Ave, there is B68 bus stop and a few store fronts up is the funeral home. So you don’t mess with that intersection. Too little parking already with all of the construction in the neighborhood. Why not require a percentage of the spots in these new buildings' parking garages be equipped to charge vehicles? Form some public-private partnership with DOT/ConEd paying for installation of electric charging stations in these garages. Until electric vehicles become truly affordable ($30,000 is NOT the measure of affordability) these electric car parking spots should not replace regular spots. Also, what happens when an EV finishes charging but stays in the spot? Can EVs remain in these spots while not charging which would prevent other EVs from charging?

You've taken up a ton of parking spots with No Parking, No Standing, Bus Stops, Citi Bikes, Car Share Companies, Drive ways, Safety Zones, Loading Zones, School Zones, Fire Safety Zones, Construction Zones, and yet Street Cleaning and Meter Hours have not changed.... What the hell is going on here? I spend about 2-3 hours a day looking for parking... all the while wasting my time and gas just to make sure that the city doesn't get me with a ridiculous parking violation. This is why more people are leaving NYC and moving in. Electric Vehicles are still too expensive for normal people. And to subside the expense for the EV parking systems ConEd is going to raise my electric/gas bills. We all know that for the next 5-10 years these parking spots won't be used. Please stop this madness!!! Please re-evaluate the NUMEROUS no parking zones that you've created.
