Please improve curb conditions by the USPS station. Cars and USPS trucks make this a very dangerous place for pedestrians.
Cars traveling northbound will often do at terrifying speed will no regard to pedestrians. They will execute the turn at 25-30 mph from 27th Avenue (eastbound) or from 21 Street. Can you please implement bollards so drivers who want to head north must make predictable and slower turns? Currently the wide entrance to 18th Street gives drivers the signal to speed up.
Sometimes cars traveling to Newtown have to wait behind a double parked vehicle by the Chinese restaurant and Chubby Burger fast food restaurant. There is also a car mechanic that blocks the sidewalk/parts of the roadbed which create barriers for pedestrian and bicycle travel. The south side of Newtown should only have loading zones for delivery trucks. By freeing up the curb for deliveries to CTown or the car mechanic, there will be less opportunities for cars queuing into 21st Street
This triangle between 27th Avenue/Astoria Blvd/21st Street does nothing to promote safety in its current form. Closing it off to cars could serve as a green space for people eating, or who need a place to sit. Today you see NYPD crossing guards park there, motorcycles park there. Sometimes cars traveling east on Astoria Blvd will use it to turn north onto 27th Avenue. You can easily make that area more productive and provide up to 30 on street parking spaces for bicycles. Air quality will improve and the overall sense of safety will improve for pedestrians
Drivers that travel to 21st Street from Astoria Blvd accelerate to maybe 35-40mph to make the light with zero regard for safety. The road should be narrowed to curb speeding. Q19 buses and their passengers are at the mercy of people driving recklessly to reach 21st Street
I understand this study is for 21st street but I have to mention how dangerous 12th Street is where I live. Cars race down to Shore Towers and Astoria Park despite a speed bump. There need to be more traffic calming measures (perhaps consider your treatment of university place by 14th street in Manhattan)
I work at NYCRN and I always, ALWAYS see people parked on the sidewalk outside the gate which is incredibly dangerous for pedestrians at night. Also cars that do this prevent ambulance vehicles from picking up residents which can be a life threatening situation when these vehicles cannot get to Mount Sinai in a limited amount of time. The fact that there is parking at all means we care more about storing private vehicles than we do about the lives of our elderly who may be suffering a heart attack or a stroke. This happens during shift changes (8:00am,4:00pm,12:00am) Please take parking away from the curb outside of NYCRN and make it only available for trucks delivering essential goods or the ambulance trucks that need 24/7 uninterrupted access
Can DOT consider placing the WalkNYC signs along 21st Street to show where the bus stops are, distances between their location and park/waterfront and the distance to nearest citibike station? You should also consider a 2-way separate bike lane along 21st Street so buses don't have conflicts with bikes.
Passengers taking the southbound Q69/Q100 make the dangerous decision to cross behind buses to cross to the east side of 21st Street. Not sure what can be done but maybe make the crossing time longer
So many times I come to this stop and see service vehicles and NYPD double park in the bus stop. Can you please extend the curb like what is usually done for SBS stops. The curb extends into the street with tactile markings so cars do not have the opportunity to block buses and buses can stop and leave on time.
