There needs to be a much bigger drive-by police presence. There are way too many drag races and ATV's at night and sometimes during the day. Near Astoria Boulevard there is a presence of small crimes going on. My wife saw someone running after another person with a knife once. This area is developing fast and if the city and the neighborhood wants to attract developers they should do more about this.
We need to continue the protected bike lane past Queensbridge park. The current layout forces northbound bikers to cross multiple lanes of traffic to get to the bike lane when on the other side of the park. Most likely they are forced to run onto the sidewalk by the park to avoid an unnecessarily dangerous situation with aggressive and fast vehicles on the road.
The divided bike lane needs to continue around this corner. The current configuration forces bikes to go over a sidewalk into a blind corner. It is extremely dangerous for both pedestrians and bikers.
There needs to be proper divided bike lane along Rainey Park. The current setup forces a northbound bike to cross two lanes of busy traffic to the protected bike lane. Very dangerous!
Contant double parking by Parks vehicles, driving school vehicles, and misc trucks along both sides of Astoria Park South, but especially right along the park. These vehicles are always blocking the bike lane.
Horrible potholes and narrow bike lane under the triboro bridge. The transition from one lane on 21st to two lanes under the bridge also results in buses and other vehicles to cross over the bike lane at the intersection and crowd the bike lane under the bridge. it's very dangerous.
There should be a left turn lane eastbound 21st and Hoyt south. You will lose a few parking spaces but the traffic won't be backed up. There is no need for the left turn lane on Hoyt north. Also Astoria Blvd could be reconfigured to put left turn lane eastbound. No parking in front of apartment building and you have three lanes. These two intersections have the worst backup on 21 st. Astoria is a mess since DOT has reconfigured streets. There is more congestion which means more emissions so bike lanes have not made us greener. Commissioner of DOT should get in a car and take a drive through Astoria to see how frustrating it is. The route could be take Grand Central get off 31st where you have to cross with traffic trying to get to bridge. Make a left on Crescent St where you can try to drop someone at emergency room in Mount Sinai in the bike lane. Next watch someone back out of their driveway into bike lane and between parked cars. Next 20ave and 21 st. There isnt enough room for buses to turn. I hope DOT can do a better job on 21st.
Going on 21st starting at Hoyt, there is no bike lane or any signage indicating the road should be shared with cyclists after Astoria Park South. As a regular cyclists I avoid this street as much as possible because of it.
There should be a crosswalk on the southside of 31st Avenue, and a traffic light. The current configuration leaves pedestrians with no choice other than dangerous jaywalking, and that is eventually going to get someone killed.
There should be a crosswalk here so people can safely access Rainey Park. The current configuration encourages dangerous jaywalking.
