Biking on 21st is treacherous. I avoid it when possible but because of where I live, sometimes it’s unavoidable for at least a few blocks
The speed limit is 25 mpg and yet oftentimes traffic moves at around 40 mph. If there’s going to be a speed limit, it needs to be enforced. The most important thing about 21st St is that safety needs to be improved. Slow the street down by any means possible so that people stop using it as a thruway to get across our neighborhood.
this intersection is extremely dangerous. Cars on 21st street turn right onto the bride entrance without regard for the red light. The traffic from 21st street and Queens Plaza North make it is next to impossible to safely cross the bridge entrance on foot. Cars on Queens Plaza North turning onto 21st street and only see bikers or pedestrians in the crosswalk mid-turn. And, this is a heavily used cross walk by bikers and pedestrians. There needs to be a clear, safe connection from the Queensborough bridge greenway to the bike trail at Baby Queensbridge park. And, a safe way for pedestrians to cross the street here.
Cars attain really frightening speeds between 34th avenue and Broadway. This would definitely be ameliorated with the addition of a traffic light at 33rd road and 21st street.
I’ve been nearly hit several times while crossing the street with my kids due to drivers running red lights going north on 21st
Left turns out of the Popeyes/Baskin Robbins parking lot are really dangerous because there is no traffic light on the 21st street/33rd road corner.
I live on this block--we need a traffic light at this intersection, not just a crosswalk.
Aggressive driving/Cars coming out of parking lot/passing cars...dangerous area
Cars park all over the sidewalk here. Enforcement doesn't work, not least of all because the NYPD park on the sidewalk themselves. It is, however, preventable with street design. Short bollards along the curb and alongside the driveways would prevent driving anywhere but the curb cuts. Not doing that is deciding that pedestrian safety is something that can be compromised on.
A crosswalk is needed on 21st St and 33rd Rd. There is no crosswalk for a lo g stretch so people jaywalk all the time. It’s incredibly dangerous.
