The surrounding neighborhoods are suffering greatly from increased traffic the streets due to lane reduction. It is unsustainable - whatever plan is approved must bring back 6 lanes of uninterrupted traffic. The additional lane should not be an HOV nor a shoulder.

It is very unpleasant to have to cross under the highway to reach DUMBO. It's very noisy, dirty, and the sidewalks are far too narrow.

The proposed public space would be unavoidably unpleasant due to the highway. It's disrespectful to propose a new park as visionary when we'll have to suffer through noise and dirty air to use it.

Induced demand has been proven to greatly affect traffic patterns for the last fifty years. Adding back the third lane would make traffic so much worse and would be a mistake for the neighborhood. Any claims that traffic has gotten worse with only two lanes must be weighed against the return to increased driving across the country since 2020, and should account for the fact that only the cantilever has reduced lanes. If you cut the entire section from Red Hook to Williamsburg back to 2 lanes (or better yet, 1 truck-only lane), traffic would evaporate, as has happened in every city that has torn down its highways without replacement.

Trucks get stuck behind private automobiles. Make the left lane truck-only to discourage personal vehicles from clogging up the span and slowing down commercial traffic.

We are not seeing any information on how the BQE would impact those living in and around 360 Furman Street. How will residents safely access Joralemon Street? What will it look like? How close to the buildings will it be? What will the noise and air quality be?
