Reduce 65th Street to one lane in each direction here in order to shorten pedestrian crossings and rationalize traffic flow, potentially keeping a right turn lane from NB 65th to EB 6th Ave if necessary.
Add a speed hump for this pedestrian crossing.
Please remove the BQE and convert this to park / bike space. This will have countless benefits, including pollution (noise and air), public health / safety, and will meaningfully improve the experience of those who live and work in the area.
Increase frequency and reliabilityof the R train to disincentivize driving. 12 minute headways in the middle of the day make people drive.
Remove all the parking on the Bay Ridge Parkway Highway overpass to create a protected bike lane. The sharrows here are going to get someone killed.
The pedestrian bridge at 84th St. is supposed to be a link bike lanes on both sides of this awful highway trench, but the fences near the entrance make it unnecessarily difficult to access the crossing with a bike. Remove the barriers.
The HOV and bus lane should be in effect 24/7 in both directions.
There's always traffic here because of toll shopping. Congestion pricing can't come soon enough. But while it's delayed the city should make the free East River crossings HOV3 and force everyone else to use the Battery Tunnel. Or better yet, opt to take the bus or train like a normal person.
In addition to tearing down the BQE, the city should remove the Belt Parkway between the Verrazzano Bridge and 65th St. This highway is unnecessary and getting rid of it would help reduce the number of cars on the BQE
There is an existing rail line for freight and with float access to the Port of Newark. This line can handle a lot more traffic. The city and state should be looking at this a solution for reducing the number of trucks on the BQE and in the city as a whole. It is sad that the city's vision is so small.
