Building this highway was a mistake. It divided neighborhoods, sullied the air quality and crippled the city's transportation network. No one in their right mind would propose anything like it today. We shouldn't keep it. Tear down the highway and restore the street grid and neighborhoods the Robert Moses blighted with his trench and highway.
The noise and air pollution coming from the current BQE South corridor needs to be fixed. The 'ditch' has created an unhealthy and unnecessary division between Columbia Street Waterfront and Cobble Hill. I strongly advocate for public green space by covering the ditch, which would be a massive change for the better both now and for the future of this beloved community.
The noise and vibrations from the BQE trench shakes our apartment constantly. My entire apartment shakes. The noise is a constant disruption. I live on Tiffany Place and face the BQE/Hicks St. Please cover the trench or at the very least put sound and vibration dampening walls up.
Why do you not allow comments on a big section of the BQE? We must go back to three lanes. Two lanes in each direction is a failed experiment that creates slower bus speeds, more large trucks on small neighboring roads, and traffic congestion in the nearby neighborhoods based on the NYC DOT's own data. We may hate it, but the BQE Is much better set up (post fixes) to handle the traffic that is required to get into NYC to bring our goods. The two lane period has shown that traffic won't decrease enough to justify keeping it as two lanes.
backed up truck traffic slows cars and busses. Plus they are loud and polluting
trucks often misunderstand street maps and try and cross the BQE on the small streets that do not have bridges. They get stuck or cause damage to parked cars
Pollution/noise from BQE is so bad for this of us living next to it and crossing it every day. Please consider a park over the BQE, or at the very least a partial covering to improve our quality of life/health.
This is a complex area to cross and unsafe for children. Need to connect the parks.
I live on the corner of Tiffany Place and Kane Street Because of the work done on the BQE South corridor, all the traffic is being rerouted along Kane Street. There is non-stop traffic on my block
Columbia Street is cut off from the surrounding neighborhood. Turning the BQE into a green space would help connect these two neighborhoods. The value added for the businesses on Columbia street and Kane would skyrocket.
