Add a bike lane to the Verrazano bridge!
this cross street is dangerous and unsafe for pedestrians trying to get to the dog park. The significantly increased traffic on Hicks street since the BQE changed to 2 lanes has created unsafe pedestrian concerns. It would be very beneficial not just for pedestrians but also for drivers to have a traffic light installed at the intersection of Hicks and Amity St. This would cause traffic to stop allowing for less traffic trying to "run" the red light at Atlantic and Hicks to get on the BQE and allow pedestrians with their dogs to cross the street safely.
This intersection is so dangerous for pedestrians! DOT and NYPD do something about the vehicles running the red lights. The way the lights have been set up is atrocious, there are vehicles blocking intersections all the time, aggressive drivers running red lights, diving over curbs, up on the grass! I have been almost hit multiple times.
This section of the BQE effectively cuts off Bay Ridge from Sunset Park for pedestrians. There is no walking route that does not go underneath the hulking BQE, which is so unpleasant (and feels frankly dangerous) that I feel compelled to take the subway even if I'm only going a few blocks north. Imagine what a thriving area the west side of Sunset Park would be if that section of the BQE were moved underground!
Around this general area there could be more people space, it can mix with industry. Industry city is lame, we need an alternative that is nice / more local feeling. Emissions are crazy over here. Bad for my lungs, I have asthma
Replace the freight capacity of the BQE with a new cross harbor freight rail link, and eliminate the overhead gowanus expressway. replace it with a new at grade boulevard.
This intersection is unsafe for pedestrians. Everyone turns here to get to 2nd avenue, and there is not enough space for traffic (usually trucks) to turn into the lane under the highway, so they drive into (and stop) in the crosswalk. There is not enough time to cross under both sides of 3rd ave, so you have to wait under the highway, which is unpleasant (noise, fumes). And there are no concrete sidewalks under the highway! There are only old cobblestones with deep grooves between them. Old people or those with carts (Costco is on this block) are constantly tripping or having to walk in the street.
The merge getting off the ramp is quite dangerous. GPS will often ask you to go to Hicks which means crossing oncoming traffic. Not sure of the solution, but there's definitely an issue.
This ramp and the whole intersection under the BQE is extremely dangerous for all - pedestrians, bikers, and drivers. I know this is not a new issue, but it doesn't really seem like any effort has been placed on improving this area.
This area is always full of cars parked on the sidewalk. It would be better to convert this area to green space that prevents cars from parking on the sidewalk. Many of the cars belong to people who display NYPD placards making the area look unsavory. Expand the park land and update the lighting under the highway using solar tubes. Create a space that prevents cars from parking there. If you do want cars to park then create proper parking spaces so it is not an ambiguous mess.
