Bike Lane Protection

A protected bike avenue is 100% needed on Bergen, but even more so, up Dean. So many bike commuters of all types and ages use these two streets specifically, more than the others, but are constantly besieged by hazards: double-parked cars, motorcycles in the “lane” that currently exists, huge trucks, construction, etc. Please move the bus if need be, or better yet, remove a lane of parking. The streets are for everybody, not just cars and car owners.

I live on Bergen and Bedford, and regularly take (and love!) the B65. That said, I also bike all the time—both down Bergen and up Dean—and see so many bikers using these streets to commute, take their kids to school, etc. I am VERY in favor of moving the bus to Atlantic. This is not a safe street for bikers, especially all the kids who use it to go to school. Please put in a secured, separated bike lane!! It will make such a difference.

A designated bike lane is unsafe for residents who need to access their homes from a car, especially those with young children like us. The fact that the e-bikes go as fast as they do is a serious safety threat to our children. They'll go EVEN faster if they have their own lane. It is unsafe for other bikers and pedestrians and impossible for residents to access their homes when exiting a car. The barrier is unsafe for children to stand on to wait to cross.

Illegal Parking

People are going to be parking illegally and double-parking if you replace one side of Bergen St of street parking into a bike lane. Absolutely not in favor of this. It will become a chaotic mess, unsafe with cars parking illegally to get to the neighborhood - to deliver packages, to do work on homes, etc.

The pedestrian crossings in this area of Bedford are a nightmare with buses, speeding cars and bike lanes that don't respect the pedestrian timing to cross the street. Implementing SIP solutions here (extended curbs, no parking next to the pedestrian crossings, bollards...) would go a long way to improve the safety of this area.

Why do we allow cars to park right next to the pedestrian crossings in these intersections when the DOT knows that reduces visibility -particularly for children- and puts pedestrians at risk?

I have lost count of amount of times I have witnessed children from nearby schools being at risk here due to the poor pedestrian visibility in this intersection, particularly for cars coming down from Rogers. Cars park right next to the pedestrian crossing in Bergen (if not literally on the crossing) and make it really hard to see incoming vehicles. It's really unsafe given there's also a bus lane

Very unwelcoming and unsafe intersection for pedestrians due to the traffic speed and lack of safety measures (daylighting, extended curbs, etc.)
