Dean St - Flatbush Ave - 6 Ave

this stretch feels SO UNSAFE with the cars and trucks blocking the bike lane, nonstop double parking, and vehicles entering/exiting without any regard for cyclists. needs proper loading zones and protected bike infrastructure that cannot be entered by vehicles

Bergen St - Franklin Ave - Bedford Ave

Crossing Bedford and Rogers feels incredibly unsafe. High speed traffic with several lanes of cars and buses. Please be ambitious with traffic calming measures and other initiatives to make life less miserable for pedestrians and bike riders (curbs, speed controls, daylighting)

Today while biking down Bergen street heading west from 4th ave to smith st, I was very nearly hit by a passenger van. I am a teacher and artist that uses my bike to commute. This happened during rush hour. I stop at red lights, do not wear headphones, and take caution on the road. Many of my friends and coworkers have been hit by cars while on their bike; it's scary. A few cars were double parked on Bergen st, blocking the bike lane. This is normal. Rideshares and deliveries are extremely common in this wealthy area. I checked over my shoulder to ensure there was enough space between the next car for me to go around. I was wearing bright orange and white stripes. It was 5pm. I guess the driver behind me decided he wanted to get ahead. I signaled to merge and started moving right into the car lane to get around. He sped up. I can only speculate why. I'm very luck to have been traveling on my own, as I sometimes ride with kids. We were a few inches from each other as I braked hard and swerved left, narrowly hitting the double parked car. At the next light I caught up to him and waved at his closed window. He refused to engage with me. I called out loudly, "Watch where you're going. You could have killed me." He didn't care. I continued on home shaken and annoyed. I am a single, low-middle income 27 year old woman who has lived in this neighborhood for years. Many of my neighbors were deeply upset at the court st bike redesign because it "eliminated parking" and "blocks emergency traffic like fire trucks". I am not a transit scientist, so I cannot weight the validity of these claims. What I can say from my lived experience is I feel safer biking down court st. I feel safer on roads with protected bike lanes. I hope you consider the opinions of the unspoken. Many voices that oppose bike expansion come to complain. But in this car focused country, I ask you to remember those of us that do not drive. Please consider the voices you hear are those with the ability to make comments, with the free time and access to share their opinion. Those who can attend meetings to share their opinions are the people who don't need to work during those hours. Those who speak up have an agenda. I'm sure you know this. I can only imagine how it feels to filter through so many messages that center distrust and dislike towards DOT. I am grateful towards you and your department for trying to make the roads safer for all of us who bike. I hope you are able to continue to do so, even if the loudest voices are those who object. Thank you for making the neighborhood safer, your neighbor, G.

Bergen St - Carlton Ave - Vanderbilt Ave

This spot on Bergen between Vanderbilt and Carlton has very patchy/uneven pavement in the bike lake which slows traffic and leads to a lot of swerving and near-accidents. Regardless of whether there's a major overhaul, please get this pavement patched up, it's useless for everybody

Illegal Parking
Underhill Ave - Bergen St - St Marks Ave

Signed as "No Standing" for bus pick up and drop off; however, it was never enforced. DOE "permits" which are signed on St. Marks & Bergen push buses to block Underhill to unload, or onto Bergen, taking up the bike lane. Useless to have a bike lane that is blocked 10 months of the year.

As a resident of the neighborhood with mobility issues, I need to use rideshare for appointments a few times a week. Please consider those that need vehicle access when redesigning the streets, these micro mobility projects are making it much harder to get around the city. Plenty of people are using bikes on the street as-is without further disrupting access for the rest of us.

I commute daily from Bedstuy to Prospect Heights via Dean and Bergen Ave on bike. The community would benefit from intentional design meant to make it safer and easier to travel via bike on these roads.
