Illegal Parking

Bergen St - 6 Ave - Carlton Ave

Constant illegal parking by NYPD and others here. The bike lane and sidewalks are routinely blocked

Literally cannot register enough support for the Bergan and Dean Bike Boulevard project. This is needed ASAP!

Would love to see daylighting here. Major subway exit and there are tons of pedestrians but cars park right up to the intersection, particularly on Smith, and make this crossing more dangerous.

There's a bunch of warehouses and surface level parking on this block and area on dean st. I'm all for the bike boulevard, but expect there to be a lot of rule breaking to get to/from these parking areas and warehouses--very agressive redesign is needed here to keep cyclists safe, since the businesses and parkers have always and will continue to break traffic laws. Ideally the bike boulevard goes along with rezoning so there's incentives to turn this industrial area into uses more useful for the community.

Dean St - Vanderbilt Ave - Underhill Ave

The extra-wide parking lane on the south side of the street has the visual effect of creating a much wider roadway leading to high vehicular speeds on this section.

There is not currently any signed or protected way to make a right turn from the Dean St. bike lane (north-side running) onto the Underhill Bike boulevard southbound. There's no bike box creating space ahead of vehicles stopped at the light and it is even more difficult when making the right on green as you have to cross traffic moving at a much faster speed.

Unsafe Crossing
Unsafe Crossing
Dean St - Underhill Ave - Washington Ave

Vehicles do not respect the painted pedestrian refuges on any corner of Washington/Dean, leading to awkward and unsafe conditions for pedestrians and cyclists as they try to navigate the intersection. Hardening these refuges and correcting the geometry to slow turns from Dean onto Washington would go a long way.

Dean St - Carlton Ave - Vanderbilt Ave

Vehicles southbound on Vanderbilt often behave as if the two southbound lanes from Atlantic still exist all the way to Dean street. This blocks the bike lane and also causes an inability to enter or exit the Dean street bike lane. This intersection is also going to be rebuilt as part of the Vanderbilt Ave capital program, but interim improvements would be very welcome for the next few years until that begins.

Parking in Bike Lane
Parking in Bike Lane
Dean St - Carlton Ave - Vanderbilt Ave

Vehicles owned by businesses on this block — particularly marked USPS trucks and Driver's Ed vehicles — frequently double park either in the bike lane or on the opposite side of the street, forcing cars into the bike lane or cyclists out of it.

Dean St - Smith St - Hoyt St

The beginning of the on-street bike lane at Dean and Smith is poorly designed due to the irregularity of the intersection. The small channelized area is seen by drivers as an invitation to park there for temporary loading/unloading, forcing cyclists to merge back into the main vehicle lane with a very awkward and unsafe geometry (the cyclists need to swerve left into the path of vehicles which are themselves swerving left to continue on Dean)
