This is the most dangerous pedestrian crossing that I know of in the entire city. One traffic light governs auto traffic across two intersections and three crosswalks. Cars traveling north on Flatbush have a light at Beekman. When the light turns yellow, cars continue through (plus a little more after it has turned red), and then the pedestrian lights turn green. But the timing of these pedestrian lights is the same as a crosswalk 100 feet north of Beekman at Maple. But there is no traffic light at Maple for northbound traffic--only southbound has a light there. So cars make it through a yellow light, only to head straight toward pedestrians in the middle of Flatbush at Maple, who are always very confused as to why there are cars traveling at them at full speed. It's bizarre that anyone in the City ever thought this traffic pattern was satisfactory.

This is a tricky traffic pattern. Pedestrians have the light to cross north-south across Lincoln between the two islands. WHILE THEY HAVE THE LIGHT, the auto traffic on the west side of Flatbush has a green light to travel east. The only thing stopping them from hitting pedestrians who are crossing with the light is a Wrong Way/Do Not Enter sign, but because of it's placement, drivers think it's referring to Lincoln east of Washington (where Lincoln becomes one way). So drivers are always driving into this intersection to turn left on Washington, while people are trying to cross in front of them. Very dangerous.

This could be a great public space in an otherwise traffic-heavy intersection. Right now, it's all illegally parked cars.

The most poorly used plot of land in the neighborhood. I don't know who owns this land, but it's a pedestrian area and is always full of tightly parked cars.

The entire length of the Ocean Ave bike lane is regularly blocked. It's a really tricky street to bike on. I'd really like to see a protected bike lane here.

This fire return route doubles as a drag racing route. The lack of speed humps invites so many speeding cars who are cutting over to Bedford and Rogers to avoid Flatbush congestion. A speed analysis was done back in 2019 and it was determined that the average speed was not great enough to warrant speed humps. I suspect this has changed since Covid. Even if it hasn’t, the low speed of some cars (which pull down the average) doesn’t make speeding cars less dangerous.
