DOT needs to put the needs of the legacy community first. The majority of Crown Heights residents do not want the Bergen bus bike lane that this survey is biased toward. It creates severe problems for accessibility for our elderly community and favors bikers commuting through our neighborhoods who don’t actually live on our blocks, but in wealthier neighborhoods. This survey also creates no accountability for bikers who violate traffic laws. Accidents caused by bikes are not accounted for. We are not against bikes, but we already have a bike lane. DOT needs to actually come to our community and hear the needs of our people. A survey placed below the waist and targeted towards bikers is not outreach.

Double-parking, Flatbush Avenue 'dollar' vans, and other activities lead to significant bus delays in the stretch of Flatbush Avenue between Lincoln Place and Parkside Avenue. The street is quite constrained here, with just a few lanes in total. Car parking should be removed in favor of drop-off zones and other temporary uses. Please consider making this stretch a dedicated busway. The busy nature of the sidewalk area also makes it difficult to visually identify bus stops along this stretch of Flatbush. They should receive a treatment that makes them easier to identify and use, even if that results in fewer bus stations overall.

There is significant speeding and dangerous driving activity on Rogers Avenue, including nearby to multiple public schools. The B44 Select Bus Service lanes should be made 24/7 and there should be daylighting and streetscape improvements made to Rogers Avenue. Sidewalk curb extensions for pedestrians at intersections would improve visibility for all and complement existing Select Bus Service stations. Improving B44 SBS service needs to be part of the network of improvements made along Flatbush Avenue, Church Avenue, and Utica Avenue as part of this Central Brooklyn study.

Lincoln Place between Prospect Park and Flatbush Avenue can be a bit of a pinch point. This is the entrance to a major subway station offering access to the B, Q, and Franklin Avenue Shuttle (S). Three buses also terminate directly outside of the subway station, dwelling here. There is also significant pedestrian and bike activity given this is a major entrance to Prospect Park. There are lots of children there, for park access and because of the existence of a preschool. Please consider limiting car traffic or eliminating parking on this one block, instead creating a better pedestrian plaza and public space that facilitates multi-modal transfers. Beautification efforts would go a long way here to support the development of the neighborhood.

There are constantly cars blocking the crosswalks along this stretch of Flatbush Avenue, especially at mid-block crossings. (The mismatch of streets east and west of Flatbush Avenue results in a high number of 'mid-block' crossings.) There should be physical barriers preventing cars from blocking crosswalks all throughout this stretch of Flatbush Avenue. Concrete sidewalk bulb outs and/or large planters and/or stones could help.

Daylighting of intersections is needed all along Avenue H for pedestrian safety.

The Aldi grocery store deserves a pedestrian crossing and a traffic light.

A new traffic light here to prevent traffic crowding at Avenue H would be helpful. Also, reversing the flow of E 32nd street here to make it northbound, and/or making it two-way, would help alleviate crowding of traffic at Flatbush and H, as some northbound traffic on Flatbush does not proceed all the way north on Flatbush but rather moves east on Ave. H then north into East Flatbush. The point is there needs to be more traffic diversion away from the intersection of Flatbush and Ave. H so that not every vehicle in the vicinity needs to cross at this junction. That reduces pedestrian incidents at the Flatbush / Ave. H junction and reduces bus congestion at the Ave. H / Flatbush / Nostrand junction as well.
