Too Many Placards
Too Many Placards
Bridge St - Willoughby St - Fulton St

Bridge Street after the DOT changed parking rules is a case of serious placard abuse. All of bridge street was designed to not have cars parking and instead FDNY from Metrotech Center abuses their placards are parks in the no standing zones.

Drivers should see a light up LED sign to indicate right turn only during the hours the bus lane is active. The current all traffic sign is too small and hard to read during these hours or to know when it is active.

The do not enter sign here is too small for drivers headed north (or turning from Livingston Street). The sign hours and days of when it is active is too hard to read while driving. The sign should be replaced with one of the light up LED do not enter signs that you see in various cities around the US (it's very common in Chicago, Washington DC, and all over New Jersey). The sign should light up saying DO NOT ENTER when the bus lane restrictions are in effect. This would also draw attention to drivers.

The bus lanes ahead sign needs to give more details to drivers that they will need to make a right or left turn at Livingston Street. The signage is too wordy to know what to do and when the bus lane is active. There should be a flashing yellow warning light like you see on highways when the sign is active to draw attention to the sign when it is active.

Red Hook Lane - Fulton St - Boerum Pl

The traffic light at Red Hook Lane and Fulton Street is not clear to drivers which direction they can go. There should be clear indications if the driver can go straight only or if they can turn onto other directions.

Boerum Pl - Adams St - Red Hook Lane

The traffic light at Boerum Place (northbound) and Fulton Street should be replaced with a separate LEFT turn arrow traffic light AND a new GO STRAIGHT ARROW traffic light. Currently the traffic light for Boerum Place Northbound traffic is a regular green light, which makes drivers believe all turns are valid. Instead the northbound traffic light should be a go straight arrow traffic light to show that drivers may only go straight if they are not in the left turn lane. This would prevent drivers and educate them about not turning onto the Fulton Street busway. The traffic light for the Fulton Street busway (both directions) should be the transit only signal to indicate to drivers that they cannot proceed down this road.

Gallatin Pl - Fulton St - Livingston St

The regular traffic light at Gallatin Place and Fulton Street should be replaced by a GO STRAIGHT ARROW traffic light. Currently the traffic light facing drivers headed north on Gallatin Place is a regular traffic light that indicates drivers can make turns here, instead the drivers can only head straight (slight bend) to continue down Gallatin Place. The traffic light for Fulton Street directions should be the transit only bus traffic lights to prevent drivers from thinking they can use the regular traffic lights.

Fulton St - Elm Pl - Albee Square

The traffic light at Fulton Street (East bound) and Albee Sq intersection needs to be re-done to improve pedestrian safety and improve driver navigation. The traffic light should have a Red to Yellow flashing left turn signal to indicate to drivers that they must yield to pedestrians crossing Albee Square while turning (many drivers will plow through the crosswalk and it has lead to many accidents here). Additionally the bus lane traffic light for continuing down Fulton St should be replaced by a transit only black and white symbol traffic light. That way it is clear to drivers that only busses can drive down fulton street. (Currently it is a regular traffic light, which indicates to drivers they can continue down Fulton Street)

The traffic light at Fulton Street (East bound) and Hoyt Street intersection needs to be re-done to improve pedestrian safety and improve driver knowledge. The traffic light should have a Red to Yellow flashing left turn signal to indicate to drivers that they must yield to pedestrians crossing Hoyt Street while turning (many drivers will plow through the crosswalk and it has lead to many accidents here).

The left turn signal for southbound drivers on Adams Street should have signs above it saying BUS only with a symbol to indicate it is for busses only. Alternatively transit only traffic signals (the black and white traffic light symbols) should be used used for the left turn signal to indicate only busses are allowed to do this. Many drivers will ignore this turn lane rule and turn onto the Fulton Street busway.
