On Wednesday August 19th, NYCDOT and MTA staff were out at bus stops near the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway subway station to talk to bus riders about their trips. The project team set up a table with information about the project and a project display board where people could write about their experiences with the bus. Bus riders were asked about the issues that they have with bus service in South Brooklyn and what improvements they would like to see.
Some of the questions asked were, “Do you take the bus?” “Can you tell us how to make your bus service better?” and “If you could change one thing about the bus, what would it be?” The team passed out 500 information cards about the South Brooklyn SBS project and gathered feedback from more than 200 people. It was a great opportunity to talk to riders along the corridor.
The top issues that people mentioned were:
- Buses run late and you have to wait a long time for a bus;
- Buses bunch up and arrive 3 or 4 at a time;
- Bus service is slow; and
- Buses are too crowded.
The bus improvements that were suggested most frequently were:
- Have buses run on time and provide more buses;
- Add bus shelters and benches to bus stops;
- Provide more frequent night service; and
- Provide faster bus service.
