E 53rd is extremely wide and has no markings except for painted chicanes by the schools. It'd be more robust if this was a north bound protected bike lane for the Eastern side of CB17 and another parallel street served as a southbound route. OR it may even be wide enough for a two way lane really.
The turn to & from Bedford & Claredon is currently one of the ONLY bike lane intersections in CB17. But Claredon is wide and it is hard to make the turn From Bedford onto Claredon East bound without a protected intersection type of design. Also, it is just terribly wide here and doesn't feel safe overall.
Auto mechanic shop ALWAYS has cars blocking both the bike lane and the sidewalk. Enforcement needs to be beefed up, or the lane needs to be made protected so it is self enforcing.
Right next to PS6... there should be ample bike corrals to help encourage kids to bike to school.
A lot of the markings here are faded ( i think only the outside line of the bike lane was restriped) and there are many potholes all along Bedford, especially here... so it is worrisome for novice riders.
Bedford is a key North-South connector but this intersection with Foster is disastrous. There is no clear signage or way-finding about how to best navigate the irregular intersection caused by the Flatbush intersection & there is zero protection despite there being many buses here. Entire intersection needs a redesign and bikes (and pedestrians) need more safety.
This intersection is terrifying to cross and makes no sense. There must be crashes here regularly.
Bike lane is needed at least from Eastern Parkway and south to connecting routes beyond Flatbush avenue/Avenue H
