Bergen St - Hoyt St - Brooklyn

As a resident of Bergen street, I am heavily in favor of making this residential street less polluted, less dangerous and less of an eyesore. Removing the cars in favor of bicycles is a very welcome change. - As someone who experiences it daily, I am increasingly upset at the levels of pollution that car drivers inflict on Bergen St (and Bond St), especially on Mondays and Tuesdays when dozens of drivers sit idling in their cars for 2 hours with the engine on. It feels like a sewer for cars these days, especially at rush hour. - Cars should be on Atlantic Avenue, buses should be on Atlantic Ave. Bicycles should have their own thoroughfares free of cars. Cars and buses are essential but not EVERY street in this city has to be given over to them. - The young woman who was the manager of Anais would still be alive if cyclists could traverse the city without being hit by cars. Personally, there is no way I am going to start cycling around the city until cars are literally unable to access bike routes. Mixing them up is absurd. - There is no reason, except for inertia, that people should be allowed to keep their private property - especially ugly, polluting property that serves only one individual's needs - in our common spaces at no charge and for months on end. I would rather have bicycles, additional greenery, and seating instead of storage space for black and grey machines that befoul the air.

Dean St - Rogers Ave - Nostrand Ave

When I lived in this neighborhood for 3 years, I would routinely avoid Bergen and Dean street to cycle on when going towards Atlantic precisely because of the unprotected lanes and the aggressive traffic. Even then, the patchwork of good and bad bike lanes in the neighborhood led me to a couple collisions due to no passing space or too close cars. I'm glad to hear there are plans to actually fix this issue and build more protection for cyclists in Brooklyn.

I am a biker, bus user, and driver. I live on Bergen I think Bergen & Dean are some of the best bike lanes in the city. There are pain points (at the start, near Flatbush, etc.) but they can be cleaned up without completely redesigning the street. Getting rid of this major E/W Bus route is deprioritizing many, many public transit users. Residents need to be able to access their homes with a vehicle for any number of reasons. Fix the problem areas, but let one of the better bike routes, bus corridors, and residential areas in the city be.

Smith St - Atlantic Ave - Pacific St

There are bike signs painted on both sides of the street on Smith up here for a couple blocks. It is confusing for drivers and bicyclists. I see bikes almost getting hit regularly as they are both sides of the cars on a one lane street with parking on both sides! At least clean up the signage .

Court St - Dean St - Amity St

Many people connect from the waterfront via Congress, up to Amity, and then jog over to Dean. Then the first two blocks of Dean you are in the traffic. But you have to know to do this. This should be clearly labeled and incorporated into the network of bike lanes.

Is there any future opportunity for a protected link to the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway?

The Bergan/Dean bike lanes should link with a hardened/protected north south bike lane that connects them to the Eastern Parkway protected bike lane-creating a proper bike “network.” Buffalo would be an excellent street to implement this and could create a connecting “greenway” between Lincoln Terrace Park and Weeksville Heritage Center and Kingsbuorough housing.

Bike Lanes on Pacific, Bergen, and St Marks should link together on Ralph Ave, where the Bergan lane is interrupted and has to begin again. There is currently no safe route from Pacific to Bergan without using the sidewalk and Ralph Ave is a busy street with cars always illegally parked and parked on sidewalks. A dedicated and hardened bike lane through through this block would increase safety dramatically and the usage of the lane on Bergan while also mitigating illegal parking, increasing safety for pedestrians as well.

Moving the bike lane route and directing it through the Kingsborough Houses Campus would take bikes completely off the road for several blocks along Dean. The Kingsborough campus roadways are enormous and could easily accommodate. The campus is also beautiful and lush and is a great community green space.
