I am constantly biking on Dean and Bergen to commute to work and visit friends in other parts of Brooklyn. Dean and Bergen are some of the only good streets for crossing Brooklyn east-west, but much of the "bike lane" is extremely unsafe and unprotected. There are often a lot of bikers, including myself, forced to weave through cars. A protected bike lane would be a huge improvement and is sorely needed as a way to cross Brooklyn. I think these streets would be ideal places to locate them.

Biking here always feels like an adventure, but not in a good way. I hope the city does something about this for the safety of our kids.

Speaking of safer bike connections, adding protected bike lane connections on Adams would be amazing. Based on channelization on Adams, the northbound main road appears to have plenty of room for a two way jersey barrier protected cycle track to at least Fulton, tho connecting it all the way down to Bergen and Dean is the goal!!

It would be ideal if we could have a Protected bike lane something similar to 9th st (from 3rd ave to Prospect Park). I understand Dean and Bergen are small streets and may have to sacrifice parking on one side of the street only to have space for the Protected bike lane. This will increase safety and confidence of children traversing these 2 busy streets and not to be biking right beside cars, buses and trucks. Car owners wont be happy but I think this is for the greater good the residents who use this busy streets on a daily basis.

This bidirectional bike corridor would go a long way in improving my day to day. I've been biking the Bergen/Dean corridor almost daily for the last 10+ years and have been feeling increasingly unsafe. On this stretch in both directions, there are many large vehicles (city buses, delivery trucks, mail trucks, etc) and consistent double parking. Not to mention, the single bike lane does not adequately support the increased volume of micro-mobility vehicles like ebikes and scooters. While I'm all for all the variations in micro-mobility, the influx of bike lane traffic has made this corridor increasingly dicey. There is just simply not enough space for all of us who need to use this thoroughfare. Navigating through the corridor safely feels like I'm playing a warfare style video game where the number one goal is to stay alive. Converting these stretches to prohibit cars would greatly improve my experience cycling and the liveability of these neighborhoods. [[To clarify, this comment relates to the full stretch of Bergen and Dean, not just the "in between" streets identified above. I was unable to select the full street via your tool.]]

Traffic gets really heavy in the mornings with a lot of double parking, cyclists, and the bus. Would be great to find a way to solve the double-parking issue somehow, because that's what slows down the bus and puts the cyclists in danger.

Troy Ave - Bergen St - Albany Houses Pedestrian Path

Bike lanes on Albany and Troy have not kept up with the big expansion of bike lanes on N/S avenues to the west. But there are lots and lots of cyclists on these roads who would really appreciate a protected lane on these streets! It gets really hairy with double parking, heavy traffic, etc.

Red Light Running
Red Light Running
Dean St - 4 Ave - 5 Ave

This intersection begs cyclists to run reds. The red light at Flatbush/Dean is LONG and cyclists are heavily incentivized to run the red at 5th ave to avoid waiting for green on 5th and then immediately getting stuck at another read. To make matters worse there is low visibility to the left. Better timing of these two consecutive would mean WAY fewer people riding out into traffic!!

This whole street could be closed to vehicles and turned into a pedestrian and bike only plaza. Especially for events at Barclays, the popularity of the restaurants around the corner. The little community garden could also be expanded into a real park that is open all the time. And then the future development of those big box stores could activate this new plaza further with ground floor retail. And add a city bike station at the corner of Dean and Flatbush!!!!
