Please implement Street Improvement Projects (SIP) in the Franklin Ave / Fulton Intersection to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists. It would be great to have extended curbs, clearer signaling and daylighting measures implemented here given the expected growth in foot traffic in the station with the Atlantic Avenue rezoning already delivering hundreds of new homes in the area.

DOT already made a mess of Underhill Avenue with bike lanes and obstacles in the middle of ghe street that make it difficult for parking, garbage truck and emergency vehicles to traverse. Adding more obstacles with bike Boulevards on Dean and Bergen Streets, further deceasing parking capacity is untenable!

Turning Bergen and Dean Streets into Bike Boulevards is a bad idea. If you want a bike boulevard, Eastern Parkway is the best and safest option as the infrastructure is already there and bikes and pedestrians are already separated from the roadways. It does not upend our neighborhood by taking away desperately needed parking spots. It is criminal to disregard the needs of whole neighborhoods which include working people, disabled and elderly people who need the bus and vehicles for work, family and business, in order to cater to the desires of the Bergen Bike Bus who clearly have multiple options for commuting to school, as they are not riding bikes during snow and rainstorms etc. I’m seriously shocked that our Mayor who was elected as an advocate for the common man, would endorse such a proposal that favors the pet project of the privileged over hard working, people who built our communities!

We live a block from this intersection and we are welcoming a new child into our family next month. Turning Bergen and Dean into a bike boulevard will make this area safer for our family both as pedestrians and potentially cyclists. Right now there is little chance that we will be biking with our child on these streets because it is not safe, despite me biking around this city myself for 15 years. It's simply not safe enough for me to want to risk it with my child, and the new bike boulevards are a step in the right direction.

Very hard for the community to make comments on this proposal without knowing what it really is. The city should be straightforward about what they are ( already) planning so we can properly address concerns. I’m concerned, as a long time resident ion Dean street, that bikes/ e-bikes have become the priority without taking into account the multi use functions of Dean/ Bergen. There’s lots of comments here that say these two streets should become bike only streets. That idea suggests a completely naive understanding of the practical everyday needs/ uses of these streets. These are residential neighborhoods, not just passthrus for bike commuters and e-bike deliveries

Bikes are wonderful. BIKERS are too often another story. Hence, bikers: obey the rules; ride safely for yourselves and pedestrians; stay off the sidewalk; stop at red lights; don’t cut corners at turns or in riding; don’t speed; and defer to pedestrians, older people, parents with strollers. Bikers: ride safely!

Bergen St - 4 Ave - 5 Ave

Pedestrians are at risk always at Bergen and Fifth and along the sidewalks and cross walks near and flowing from that intersection and others. Walkers’ head turning, in all directions, while a good exercise, is too often required. Also some bicyclists do not stay off the sidewalks and approach pedestrians from behind, some cyclists at speeds that if any pedestrian moves left or right, could be disastrous. Enforce the rules: No cyclists on sidewalks. Stop at lights, Defer to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Red Light Running

Bergen St - 4 Ave - 5 Ave

Red light running, crosswalk and corner cutting is nearly all by bicyclists. Enforcement is non-existent. Enforcement via random, mobil, surprise enforcement teams should be established and ongoing. At Brgen and Fifth, I have never see any, enforcement, even on busy weekends, peak travel times of the day, or Barclays Center event dates. That should change. Then, over time, bicylclists' behavior will change.

This block should not be a truck route. It is already a bus route, now for 2 buses, and an emergency vehicle route. Bergen, a narrow street, should not also be a truck route.

It's difficult to comment without knowing details of the proposal. Very important to share the details and ask for comments before plan is finalized. I am in favor of biking that is safe and respectful of others. Residents of the block need to have access to their homes with cars (their own or taxis and ride shares,)
