Dean & Bergen Streets
It is ridiculous to have these two blocks of Bergen street designated as a truck route. Remove them to demonstrate good will toward this block that has been overburdened for a long time and then come back to us with requests for a bike boulevard.
This block is unsafe for bikes because it has trucks, buses, cars and emergency vehicles. There is too much traffic on this block to add more bikes. The bikes make it unsafe for pedestrians. We have cyclists that bike the wrong way, run red lights, zip down the street and bike on the sidewalk despite a bike lane existing. If you don't ticket the bikes, how will the pedestrians be safe? If you don't ticket the cars, how will the cyclists be safe? If you don't fine the honkers, how will the residents have peace? At the moment the city is plagued by NYPD who don't feel it's their responsibility to give tickets. That must be addressed first.
There are now TWO bus routes on this street. This block is also a truck route, a fire route and a bike route. The buses often get stuck behind vehicles that are double parked. Honking ensues. There are signs about not honking but it is not enforced. Remove the trucks and enforce the honking fines.
Cars often speed down this street. If you won't enforce the speed limit, put a speed hump.
This hydrant often has cars sitting in it that are "with" the delivery bikes. This is safety hazard and we don't understand why the NYPD can't figure out how to enforce this area.
Implement daylighting and extended curbs to improve the pedestrian safety in Franklin. Many intersections don't have this
When is the DOT going to get serious about improving the safety in Atlantic Avenue?
I have been close to being run over by a car several times in Atlantic Avenue due to the poor traffic light sequencing. There's barely any time to cross this massive road before the cars come towards you when they do a left turn
We should remind drivers this this is not a highway
This intersection is super unsafe to cross. As a pedestrian you feel like you're going across a highway. Cars tend to speed through and the traffic lights barely give you time to get to the pedestrian island
