Difficult Turn/Crossing

Bergen St - 4 Ave - 5 Ave

Right now, there are two buses that go down this block. The B63 is a new addition, and it has created all sorts of safety issues for pedestrians. It regularly blocks the street at the corner of 4th and Bergen, so people cannot cross the street. These safety issues are compounded by bicyclists not obeying traffic lights and routinely occupying crosswalks. The bike boulevard would compound all of these issues for local residents.

The street is not wide enough for this, full stop. This decision must have been made in a vacuum, without visiting the actual site conditions to see for yourself. How on earth will the bike boulevard fit, unless at the expense of everything else that the community needs to function? Bikes are not the only mode of transportation that people need. The majority of residents will still depend on vehicles and the space needed to park one way or another: deliveries, taxi/ride share, emergency vehicles, moving in or out. The traffic right now is already terrible with TRUCKS (which I heard is the result of a historical typo that has never been fixed), delivery e-bikes, buses, all on top of regular traffic. This is a monumental impact on the people who live and work in the neighborhood.

This block is the most painful gap in the existing Dean St bike lane for two main reasons. First, literally the street is incredibly painful to ride on - the worst road surface I've ever seen. Second is parking - this street is a regular mess of delivery vehicles, double parked cars, and illegally parked police cars. This adds to the feeling of chaos. Most days, I choose to bike a less direct route home with few protected bike lanes because at least I can avoid the mess that is this block of Dean Street.

Bergen St. is vital for Bikers. Unfortunately, Bergen St. West of Flatbush Ave. is not wide enough for a buses and cars and bikes. Relocate the bus route and create a 15-mph limit for a single lane of cars. look at the constant traffic jam in front of the 86 NYPD Precinct at the intersection of Bergen St. and 6th Ave. The bus line needs to be rerouted. Thanks for your consideration, Tim

What most comments are missing is that the width of Bergen Street (curb to curb) is 44' between Carlton and Vanderbilt (for example), but only 34' between 5th and 4th Avenues (for example). This narrower width is not enough for two parking lanes, a bike lane, and a bus lane when a vehicle is stopped for pick-up or drop-off. It is also, as crazy as it seems, a truck route. C'mon!!!

no bike boulevard please. the area is too congested as it is already and will be worse when flatbush bus lane is finished

I watched a B63 bus struggle to turn onto Bergen and then struggle again to turn off Bergen just one block away. It’s a true waste of time and fuel to have this bus rerouted. It makes no sense on the route and wastes everyone’s time. Not to mention the increased noise pollution and air pollution on this block now. The traffic backing up on 5th ave, waiting for busses to turn is also a nightmare, and bad for business. This bus should definitely go back to the original route- turning on Flatbush.

A bike boulevard on Bergen St is a very bad idea. The B65 serves all Brooklynites and visitors who cannot or do not bike. If we want to make biking safer, which we do, why not have the police department enforce traffic laws? Bergen St should continue to be a bus route for the B65, and an emergency vehicle route, and also have parking for residents on both sides of the street.

Flatbush Ave - Fulton St - Nevins St

Always a good amount of unnecessarialy chaotic driving through here. The double parking at Juniors often creates dangerous conditions with cars trying to zip around and turn right onto Nevins

Consider daylighting here to prevent food trucks and other vendors from blocking crosswalk visibility at the Gold Street crosswalk on Albee Square
