Illegal parking on Flatbush between Lafayette and State is wild. Always at least 1 car illegally parked in front of the Apple Store, Whole Foods or the school. Even 1 misparked car crates chaos because of the trimmed down lanes.
5 Avenue is marked as a bike route yet it's horrendous for bikers. Two-way car traffic rife with double parking. Constant cars and bikes swerving. Avenue should be fixed, or it shouldn't be designated as a bike route -- nudge people to 4th instead.
So many good bike lanes lead to this wild stretch of Schermerhorn and Lafayette as it crosses 3rd, Flatbush and Ashland... and when you get here it's chaos :(. The biking infrastructure effectively disappears as you enter the part where you need the most protection from cars
The idea that cars/delivery trucks/ emergency vehicles/school buses, local residents etc can just use some "other" streets so Dean/Bergen can be turned over to bikes (really electric bikes, mopeds, electric scooters ) is a completely naive and unholistic understanding of how these streets/neighborhoods are used. Not to mention, these are pedestrian heavy (mostly) residential streets, ebikes are already a hazard around here, bike boulevards would only make it worse.
Need bike lane!
Full connection from Brooklyn Bridge Park Greenway east->west towards Prospect Park and beyond sorely needed. Connecting fully protected, safe paths will make cycling a viable option for getting around a much larger area. Car storage for the wealthy ruins an area that could use a lot more of its beautiful people having space to enjoy outdoors.
A bike boulevard on Bergen / Dean is much, much needed and an excellent idea. Both these streets are already heavily used by bicycles, so it would seem like a natural evolution/extension to protect bike traffic from cars. To state the obvious: currently all streets are predominantly used by cars/vehicles - making most streets unsafe for bikes. It seems reasonable (and safe) to reserve these two streets for mostly bike use? Vehicles can use any other street to safely move around - the same is not true for cyclists.
Every "redesign" or "enhancement" makes it more dangerous for pedestrians.
Highly supportive of adding a bike boulevard that connects Prospect Park all the way to Brooklyn Bridge Park, if possible. Would be great to emphasize both bicyclist and pedestrian activity, as this could easily become a route for distance runners. It is already a beautiful street (for the most part), and this would only enhance it. There is plenty of parking on other side streets in this part of Brooklyn. Just need to maintain ability for local traffic to access. Again, highly supportive.
