Fully oppose adding more bike boulevards to this neighborhood when we've yet to find a version that is actually effective. Stop taking away residential parking that is much needed in this neighborhood to implement ineffective "safety measures".

This bike boulevard on Underhill is a prime example of how a good idea of protecting bikes has been so poorly executed as to frustrate both drivers and bikers. The lights on Underhill were never synced, which means as a driver you were stopping at nearly every intersection anyway and it was pretty impossible to pick up speed. In an attempt to improve safety, giant planters were placed in the roadway to "slow traffic" that was never fast anyway, eliminating 30% of much needed residential parking spots. Meanwhile, bikers have complained about this stretch and poor visibility with all the planters and tight roadway which just puts everyone at more danger. What a waste of city resources and elimination of parking spots for no reason at all! Please don't let this happen on Bergen & Dean!

The idea behind bike boulevards and street planters and widened sidewalks is well intentioned but the outcomes are so poor. Making it so that cars cannot edge to the side of the road to make a right turn while waiting for pedestrians to clear the crosswalk means that the entire road of cars is waiting for 1-2 people to cross the street before they can pass through the light. Which means drivers get frustrated and angry and end up running red lights. I've never been more fearful crossing Vanderbilt and nearby streets as a pedestrian than i have since these ideas have been implemented. The number of cars running red lights (especially during Summer Streets) is shocking and dangerous.

I agree with the other commenter - street sweeping should be occurring on the south side of Dean Street. It's bizarre that this is not being done on a weekly basis on this block.

I love the idea of a Bike Boulevard on Bergen Street! My only modes of transportation are public transit & my bicycle and I spend a lot of time biking along Dean and Bergen to visit friends and family in Crown Heights, but often feel unsafe cycling due to the car traffic. Most of the time the roads are wide enough except for two lanes of parking AND double parking! Also, free street parking is just a handout to the people who can afford cars. It's about time that the city invested in its public spaces for the good of the PUBLIC and not private property owners.
