Tourist buses often stop here and make it difficult for pedestrians and bikers. When buses are not there, ice cream trucks stay there all day long in the summer. E-bikers blow through this light
All the long-term free parking on the side streets means there are rarely open spaces, which in turn makes it challenging for people to make pick-ups and drop-offs safely. There should be more short-term and metered parking.
Ideally there would be a protected bike lane along 72nd St given the cross-park connection. Failing that, 74th St could be an alternate bike path from Riverside to Central Park - but then the CPW bike lane should be two-way from 74th to 72nd. A lot of the wrong-way bicycling on the CPW bike lane is because cyclists don't feel safe using 72nd St to reach the entrance to the park at 72nd and CPW.
Bus travel down here is *so* slow. As other commenters have noted, just get rid of the parking on this avenue, it's ridiculous, the vast majority of residents don't drive. There should be dedicated bus lanes and better pedestrian access. This parking is absurd.
Construction equipment has been parked on the corner of 81 and Amsterdam for 3 years. It is not fair to the residents of 180 w 81 that cannot pull up in front of the building in a cab. They need to move the backhoe to another location. It has been 3 years.
Every night a car parks on the north east corner of Amsterdam and 81st (behind the St James Gate shed) and the bus is unable to turn onto 81st. There should be a large no parking sign or a barrier to prevent this. The bus honks for upwards of an hour with no remedy. Every night.
NOTE: street is arbitrary. This applies to many intersections. Need better snow removal/drainage at intersections. Accumulated slush and puddles (sometimes even with just heavy rain) make crossing difficult and with slush slippery and dangerous with possibility of fall and injury. (NOTE: this may be duplicate. I tried to submit, and it didn't seem to go through - didn't see my comment and total number did not increase.)
REDUCE ALL VEHICLE PARKING ALONG W 86TH. Access for public buses is always impeded because W 86th a two-way, one-lane each way street ALREADY too small/narrow for traffic volume. LOTS of elderly and disabled pedestrians in the immediate area; as walkers we are already endangered by LIMITED PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SPACE in street and reckless drivers
Good spot for short term parking. Always cars double parked for drop offs and not meaningful parking there anyways.
Bike lanes are VERY necessary going north and south on Broadway. There is no safe bike infrastructure on a busy lane. It is unsafe for bikers, drivers, and pedestrians to have cyclists in traffic.
