Bikes traveling in both directions at high speed not yielding or following any traffic laws. I have seen a few pedestrians hit by bikers.
Bikes (motorized & non-motorized), scooters, etc do not follow traffic laws, lights or signals traveling north, east, south or west on the streets & avenues, especially around W71st & W 72nd. It's extremely dangerous trying to cross the streets getting to/from the 72nd St subway stop
Mobile food vendors parked here illegally (per the official list of allowed streets and other locations) daily, leaving large indelible marks on the sidewalk, blocking pedestrian access, and taking away customers from the food shops and restaurants directly across the street.
This is where amazon contractor trucks come to unload every day, on the east side of columbus here. There is every day 1-2 18foot box trucks parked here, in addition to 10-20 workers. Commercial loading space needs to be made nearby. Perhaps taking the parking there (but not during sundays on farmers market days).
Please preserve on street parking
Bikers must be policed and ticketed in an aggressive, no tolerance manner. We have reached the tipping point. E-bikes especially present a serious hazard! They cannot be heard , so pedestrians do not know if they are behind them or coming. Many of these e-bike riders do not realize that dogs and small children have unpredicatable movement annd can spontaneously move in erratic, unpredicatable ways. Thus, speeding by a pedestrian , going 30 miles an hour, the wrong way, and not obeying traffic laws is really , really a bad idea , particualryly when the biker is trying to zoom around a small child or animal. Calling 911 does no help. It's too late. Only bike-traffic policing will solve this serious pedestrian hazard. So why isn't the city policing the bikers? Especially the e-bikers and the mopeds? These e-bikers have killed pedestrians , multiple times, yet nothing is done to change the law or policing habits. Why? A brilliant woman was murdered in a hit and run e-biker in front of the famed Lincoln Center, yet her death was in vain. Nothing was done. Nothing changed. We are all still as vulnerable as this famed artistic legend, who died, mercilessly, for no reason. None of this violence on the strets has anythign to do with cars. It is all from bikes. Why? Because car owners should have insurance. All have license plates. All know they are accountable to the law. All should have a license and have taken a driving test. Yet bikers have NONE of these requirelments. Bikers should be required to take a NYC-biker test, get licensed, get a license plate, annd purchase liability insurance. No one should be able to drive an e-bike until they have been vetted in the same way as cars and motorciycles are. An e-bike is not a bike. It travels fast and can KILL. Yet the bikers are anonymous! Have no insurance! They can kill someone , yet there is no recompense. Why? Every walker with whom I speak HATES bikes, especially e-bikes! Even the e-bikers agree they are dangerouse and need regulation. To all politicians: your corruptions is clear to all! We know you love the aggressive bike lobby, but you are going to lose a lot of constituents. People are leaving the city over this issuej. Ours streets are not safe. Wake up! Fight! Protect your citizens instead of ltaking money from bike lobbies. These e-bikers are delivery drivers, business people rushing to their jobs, parents on bikes trying to get thieir kids to school. All of them frequently break the law and put pedestrians, small children, the elderly, and animals at risk. They all need licensing and insurance, and poliicing. Tell everyone to SLOW DOWN! Tell them to leave earlier,. Tell them to Give time to follow traffiic LAWS, including no riding on the sidewalk, unless your're a kid under 12. Central Park is no longer a peaceful place, but a place where I I've nearly been killed multiple times by E-scooters going 30 MPH on the paths. EVERYONE is saying the same thing. Do something about these bikes and scooters!
I appreciate the effort to improve our neighborhood but as someone who needs a car for work but can not afford a garage , this program will make parking more difficult than it already is. Many of my neighbors are in a similar situation. We have cars that we need for work or family and you are going to be taking away most of the available parking spots. Something must be done for long term residents of this neighborhood who rely on parking spaces. PLEASE consider us too!
The protected bike lanes along CPW are a haven, except for when there are multiple charter buses parked in the bike lane in the vicinity of the museum.
Amsterdam Ave is simply too wide and too busy to be a neighborhood street. We need to expand sidewalks (they get super narrow where there are restaurant extensions and tree in the same space) and get rid of car lanes. Cars have plenty of opportunities to get around this neighborhood, including Broadway and the West Side Hwy. We want more sidewalk space, more open streets, more opportunities to close down blocks to traffic and parking for community events.
Tacombi has taken over half of the block for dinning sheds that go unused during the winter months
