Observed for-hire vehicle knock cyclist at corner of Norman & McGuinness. Cyclist was knocked off bike after being clipped by driver. The driver had been going by the cyclist as he was stopped by the curb. The incident was scary and took place almost right in front of the ghost bike on that corner - this is obviously a problem. We could have had a repeat death over what? Vehicles speeding.
No matter what you do. If people mentality won’t change it will never be safe. People walk on red signal people drive bicycles on red, what do you expect
FDNY employees illegally park in the fire zone.
Buses always get stuck in traffic here, and the traffic is often from the LIE/QMT. Why not give buses priority over personal vehicles/trucks? Let's put a bus lane on the bridge. Bus passengers should not be penalized because the tunnel toll is too low, or because LIRR is not attractive enough to car commuters.
This is a large, vastly underused parking lot. Why do we have such things? Why couldn't we undo the poor 1950s-era land use decisions and put up affordable housing here that respects the existing street wall? We need to be doing everything we can to reduce car parking.
trucks are frequently illegally parked here, causing issues for turning busses. NYPD doesn't care.
McGuinness Blvd is a car sewer, not the urban boulevard that it could and should be. How would we shape the right-of-way if our goal were to encourage Greenpointers to spend time on and around McGuinness? If our goal is merely to make McGuiness less hostile, that implies that "car sewer" is the default, when the default should be "neighborhood amenity."
Flooding area. This street is underutilized, partially because of the flooding conditions. There is flooding at this spot and up a block or two towards Greenpoint Ave. Potential rain garden area for DEP at this specific spot.
McGuinness Boulevard is a two lane in each direction road that is a very important commercial thoroughfare for the entire region. This road was never designed or meant to be used by bicycle riders. There are plenty of side streets that have bicycle lanes already and are much safer for bicycle riders. Removing lanes from McGuinness Boulevard will create a traffic nightmare for the neighborhood. The boulevard will be backed up from Meeker Avenue all the way to the Pulaski Bridge and it will be almost impossible to turn onto or off of McGuinness Blvd. from any of the connecting arteries not to mention the issues it will create for the fire department on Greenpoint Avenue, and any other emergency vehicles
