Area of Opportunity
Area of Opportunity
Driggs Ave - Mcguinness Blvd South - Graham Ave

This is a main thoroughfare and a vital artery for commercial traffic and deliveries. Do not reduce number of lanes - this will likely aggravate traffic and actually ADD noise and pollution as traffic grinds to a halt.

There is no need for bike lanes on McGuinness Boulevard. There are great alternatives to bike around the neighborhood. This is not one of them. A bike lane here would back up traffic for a road that is a critical connector between Queens and Brooklyn. This added congestion is not healthy for the residents in the area either.

All of McGuiness needs a physically protected two way bike lane. It is a biker death trap as currently engineered.

Failure to Yield
Failure to Yield
Mcguinness Boulevard - Pulaski Bridge Bike Path - Dupont St

This area, where cars headed southbound off the bridge merge with bikers headed southbound off the bridge bike lane, and with pedestrians crossing at Eagle, is very dangerous for both pedestrians and bikers. Cars frequently come off the bridge at speeds over 40MPH and it's a situation where a single wrong move could result in a severe injury or death as speeding cars, bikes, and pedestrians move. Need some traffic calming here.

Mcguinness Boulevard - Ash St - Deadend

Drivers fly on the Pulaski. Frequently hit 50 MPH (I know from being in ubers). There should be a permanent speed camera pointed at the bridge in both directions, but especially southbound, given the lack of a light on the Brooklyn side.

Constant pothole issues along this stretch of roadway.

Disagree with removing any traffic lanes on this stretch of roadway. Both the two traffic lanes and existing parking lane are all needed to keep traffic fron constantly being congested here.

Do not bring back open streets, that horrible idea, especially near a park, only flooded adjacent streets with cars, made parking more difficult, and hampered response times for emergency vehicles.

Uncomfortable for Novice Cyclists

Mcguinness Boulevard - Calyer St - Greenpoint Ave

Living on McGuinness Boulevard, I do not feel safe riding my bike as a novice biker. There has been a significant amount of new residential development in this neighborhood over the last several years and the street design should reflect that for pedestrian and cyclist safety. Many of my neighbors walk their dogs and go on walks with their small children on this busy street. Traffic calming measures should be added as well as a protected bike lane with bollards. A bike lane would allow me to bike to the Greenpoint or North Williamsburg ferry stops or to Long Island City without fearing for my safety. Residents also often cross in the middle of McGuinness to access the Key Food and Taco Bell. This is dangerous because of the traffic. A crosswalk and yield sign should be added to the middle of the street where people are crossing anyway.

Down Under the Pulaski Bridge Overpass. The area beneath the Pulaski Bridge is a great opportunity for art and commerce to collide. Over on Paidge Avenue, there are fantastic murals that tourists go out of their way to photograph. Creeping up Box Street are a bunch of exciting new businesses and restaurants that New Yorkers go out of their way to visit. Under the Pulaski Bridge, there could be farmers markets and/or flea markets going right up to the revitalized Newtown Creek. Well, there is a Bridge Maintenance facility there now, and that is very valuable obviously, but perhaps more creative minds than myself could figure something out. It's already a fascinating intersection for industry, street art, food enthusiasts, tourists and weddings at Box Hotel, boating. City can amplify all that.
