Need a bike and pedestrian crossing here. Russel st is the only north bound access to the neighborhood between McGuinness and Kingsland which are both unsafe to bike on. (North Henry and monitor are good, calm south bound options) Bikes usually will bike the wrong way on North Henry or on the sidewalk to go north because it is unsafe to reach Russell st by bike from Meeker.
Bike Lane with serious protection needed.
Line for car wash causes a lot of dangerous situations for drivers and a lot of noise pollution.
Bikers should not be allowed to ride in the street anymore because they do not follow traffic laws, run red lights, and make turns without signaling. If there is such an extreme need for cyclists, then they should ride on the sidewalks which will avoid any potential for collision. Why should drivers have to concede to cyclists when they don't respect drivers in the neighborhood? Cyclists weave in between cars and then cry about how dangerous riding around the neighborhood is. Cyclists should also be made to register their bikes as a vehicle with plates so they can be fined as well. If you eliminate lanes on McGuinness, then the excess traffic on residential streets and on the Pulaski Bridge will be enormous, especially during rush hour.
McGuiness is no more dangerous than any other street. Wait for the light, and look before you cross. Here in Greenpoint, we all cross streets without much thought - think about Manhattan - most of the time we only have to wait at McGuinness and Manhattan to cross. So people get impatient. And the cyclists are dangerously reckless, they never want to stop. They call it "dangerous" because they can't just breeze across at a gap, like they can almost anywhere else around here.
Taking Jewel on the bike to get to the bridge means taking a left turn/walking the bike to the corner with Provost. Stretch limos love parking here, and it makes it very difficult to navigate.
Double parking cars and trucks make this dangerous for bikes any time of day, but especially from 3-7PM
Noisy trucks use Leonard street as a 'shortcut' downtown route to avoid lights on McGuinness, especially overnight. They speed and also are really noisy. Also a danger to bicyclists in bike lane and pedestrians in crosswalks. Can trucks be required to use McGuinness instead of local streets if they do not have business on the local streets?
It is very difficult to see oncoming traffic when turning left (or right) from Ekford onto Greenpoint Ave. This is especially dangerous because cars are going fast.
