Greenpoint Ave & Kingsland Ave is the site of the "Gateway to Greenpoint"community master plan. It is supposed to create an entry point to open space projects. This area and McGuinness should use similar eco design principles.
The access to the Pulaski bridge for cyclists is confusing, low capacity, and dangerous on both sides of the bridge. The ideal setup for this section is to have two separate bike paths on both sides of the bridge, with a complete 4-way PROTECTED Dutch-style intersection on both sides that give bikes and pedestrians intuitive access. There is no clear way for cyclists to continue north directly on 11th St, nor for cyclists headed northbound on McGuinness to access the bridge path. Proposing multi-block detours or only making it possible for cyclists to access the bridge via certain streets is unacceptable.
You cannot reroute trucks from McGuinness blvd it is needed to remain unchanged as to not cause the trucks to overflow into the already crowded residential streets If you remove a lane there will be endless honking and cause major commotion. Bicycles should not be allowed on McMansion ticketed if using
Forget the bike lane on McGuinness, that road will never be bikeable and it’s not needed. What we need most is a BIKE RACK to lock up outside the supermarket. There are 0 bike racks in this area and I’ve been requesting one for years now.
Please remove as much car traffic from this road as possible. It is a huge wide road running through a residential neighborhood and it endangers the lives of 1000s of people who do not own cars (the vast majority here). Removing a lane of travel in both directions would make the road safer to cross and slow down traffic, which hopefully will curb some of the excessive speeding and red light running.
Please consider ALL residents of Greenpoint when redesigning McGuiness Blvd. Safety is paramount for everyone and there are ways to improve safety without a “road diet”. Removing any lanes of traffic will have a direct Negative effect on local quality of life. The surrounding streets will be forced to absorb the traffic causing quiet streets to become congested and highly trafficked. Please don’t forget that The BROOKLYN Queens Connector BQX project will cause even further traffic from parallel Manhattan Avenue onto local streets. As for as bicyclist, for everyone’s safety, can we move the bicycles off McGuiness BLVD entirely? Leonard street which runs parallel to McGuiness has a very wide underused bicycle lane. Can bicyclist be rerouted here to a much safer less trafficked equally direct and safer road? Please consider everyone before any lanes are removed.
First of all, the question is what exactly is the DOT willing to do? Second, no bicyclers on the Blvd. Third, no parked cars on the Blvd. Those who live on the Blvd. who drive, who have their car insurance listed for the Blvd. address, who's car is licensed and who are licensed themselves and who's car is registered, will get free parking under the BQE with an electric charger for their (eventual) electric car. Get rid of the parking meters. It's an insult to the people of this neighborhood who provide so much for this city. Fourth, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. truck deliveries can be made all along the Blvd. Fifth, Do you have the courage to do that?
The key foods loading dock is too short for the trucks that regularly unload there so they jut out into the sidewalk, forcing pedestrians to walk into the street to get around. street redesign could involve narrowing the street and expanding the sidewalk so that the trucks actually fit inside the loading dock. multiple trucks also
Beer trucks deliver to bar and restaurant on these corners. The delivery trucks double park at the light to deliver to the bar. This blocks traffic and makes it one lane for their delivery which takes 15-30 minutes. AT the time, vehicles have to make a right handed turn, from the left lane and awkwardly turn to complete the maneuver. The delivery trucks double park, with their tail in the crosswalk, to deliver to the restaurant. once again, this takes 15-30 minutes and makes the roadway one lane. when delivering to the restaurant; they use the crosswalk to unload and stack. pedestrians walk outside the crosswalk towards nassau avenue flowing traffic. vehicles coming from newell street to make a right handed turn have to make an awkward maneuver to complete the turn onto McGuiness. Both of these deliveries cause unneeded backup and pedestrian/driver frustration. Police frequently drive past these events with no enforcement or interaction of the event.
bike riders go against the lights at this intersection. they go against direction of school crossing guards at this intersection. They go against FLASHING RED LIGHTS on school buses at this area.
