While it helps that there are turning lanes on McGuiness Blvd, it would help immensely if you were to install turning signals so that motorists can safely make turns onto residential streets off of McGuiness Blvd compared to now having to wait and gunning your engine in order to avoid oncoming traffic on the other side of McGuiness Blvd. While the recent addition of speed cameras should help, we should be more open to a Woodhaven Blvd and Queens Blvd approach in order to handle this problem. There is no need for bicycle lanes as there are other street options available that run parallel for bicyclists to get to their destinations. I have lived in this neighborhood for +50 years, and have lost friends on McGuiness Blvd as well due to deadly incidents with motor vehicles, but I also know it's not always the motorists fault. I feel with some more traffic safety improvements like I have mentioned will greatly improve safety on McGuiness Blvd
Trucks speeding through the light at nassau and mcguinness or using their breaks causing a lot of noise pollution in addition to cars and trucks all using their horns the moment the light turns green. I've witnessed several accidents on McGuinness heading north towards Nassau including a car on fire, a car flipped over after crashing into a row of parked cars, a car crashed into a tree. The noise level has increased and gotten worse over the past decade
Unless additional neighbourhood parking options/locations are planned, I am opposed to anything that removes a lane in Greenpoint. As a local, I love riding my bike, but traffic congestion trumps additional bike lanes on McGuinness. I just avoid riding on that busy street! I welcome efforts to slow trucks or other safety tools. It's just that there are already so few options for parking... and zero affordable garage/outdoor lots. It would be a mess with even less parking available on McGuinness.
Calyer needs a crosswalk between Manhattan and McGuinness. Drivers speed like crazy here and visibility is very low.
People constantly flooring it down Calyer to beat the light at McGuinnesss.
TRAFFIC CAMERA NEEDED Constant car and truck speeding here. thank you
PLEASE ADD A SPEEDBUMP here. Drivers constantly speeding when entering Pulaski bridge.
Speeding cars. PLEASE ADD A SPEEDBUMP here.
SPEEDING, LOUD CARS Please add a speed bump! thank you
There's no reason for McGuinness Blvd to be used for cycling. Cyclists in this neighborhood are exceptionally rude, careless, and consistently put drivers' lives at risk. How is it that once cyclists began to use the Blvd, all of a sudden there are issues? How do people not know how to cross the street when there are designated crossing times at each corner? If people knew how to cross the street and paid attention to their surroundings, you wouldn't have issues. Leonard St has a bike path that is never used, let them use that and leave McGuinness alone. McGuinness needs all 4 lanes or else itll reek havoc on the neighborhood. There is constant construction going on which already blocks lanes of traffic causing a buildup. Cyclists weave in and out of traffic without signaling, using lights etc but are quick to place blame on drivers. There is already too much traffic coming into Greenpoint from all bridges, we don't need any more so somebody can take a stroll down the block on their bike.
