Kings Highway deserves a redo. Make it a people first corridor with protected bike lanes north to south that unites communities and connects with existing - and planned - east west bike lanes in Central Brooklyn.
There NEEDS to be a protected bike lane connector from the end of the Eastern Parkway path to the Pitkin Avenue route just one block away. Then the intersection of Pitkin, Howard, & East NY Avenue needs a big overhaul for all vulnerable road users. The paint & plastic treatment if got in 2020 was woefully inadequate. And if we're gonna be serious about biking and climate change, the Pitkin strip out to be remade with protected lanes that continue the safety of Eastern Parkway.
Linden Blvd is TOOOOO wide and totally dedicated to cars. Use the service lanes & give it a Queens Blvd style makeover. It'd be an amazing bike connector for central & East Brooklyn & would also enhance safety for all pedestrians attempting to cross that insane highway that cuts thru neighborhoods.
Add a fully protected multi-directional bike lane on both sides of Flatbush Avenue providing a safe way for people to travel along the length of it without relying on cars. Especially giving access to those who live beyond the reach of the subways and providing options to get to the shops along Flatbush, Brooklyn College, Brooklyn Junction and extend the lanes to Aviation Rd, setting up a way to reach the beach/recreation without having to rely on a car. Will also serve to traffic calm Flatbush Avenue which sees speeding as well as double parking.
New York Avenue from Avenue H north would be a great route to reduce aggressive vehicle traffic and better facilitate CB 17 bike movement south/north to/from Flatbush junction and the Target, etc., which is a major community commercial hub.
A lane along Caton would provide a safe way for bikers to travel along the Parade grounds from one side to the other.
This route would connect multiple pre-existing lanes to form one large network of lanes.
Connect two already existing lanes to create a long continual safe route.
This lane would connect with an already existing bike lane and expand access to safe travel for bikers. It also runs horizontally across the neighborhood which is something that is desperately needed.
A protected bike lane along Church Ave would provide a safe route for people traveling across the neighborhood.
