This would be a great spot for a new bike station because it is right across from NEST (a large school consisting of elementary-high schoolers) and is also close to Bard High School and many students would walk their friends to the bus station nearby (even if they do not take that bus). Even though there is a station at Stanton and Magin that is way closer to Bard, most students need to pass Columbia Street to get home or even just to hang out with their friends. There are also many NYCHA residents surrounding this area who would greatly benefit from this added station. Overall, it is a versatile spot to add a bike station.
High ridership, dense with destinations.
Never enough docks in Red Hook. Especially on weekends, where a lot of people cycle to this neighborhood.
With Empire Store bldg fully opened and the completion of BB Park and new residential buildings this area has boomed. Little transit access but big bike support.
Another vote to add a docking station for this busy block: there are two entrances to Central Park (btw 85th and 86th, as well as btw 86th and 87th), as well as three subway entrances (86th, 87th and 88th). The current dock on CPW/85th is regularly empty in the mornings -- and full at night so you can't return the bike.
Very popular destination park, several local businesses in 1-block radius.
Useful to have near the LIRR train station
Could use bike share capacity here to reduce the load on nearby stations.
This area needs way more bike docks. Not necessarily more bikes. There have been days I have been late to work because there was nowhere to dock my bike because all of the docks were full. Many others were in the same predicament and we would just drive around and around or have to stand there waiting wishing and hoping for someone to take a bike so we could dock out bikes and get to work. And then after work often times there aren’t anymore bikes left because everyone took them all. There needs to be over quadruple the amount of bikes and docks in this area.
