Astoria's Rainey Park Reopens

Group of people celebrating the reopening of Rainey Park

On July 9, 2025, NYC Parks and its partners celebrated the reopening of Rainey Park in Astoria. The $8.5 million reconstruction yielded new playgrounds, fitness areas, spray showers, improved accessibility features, and new, expanded waterfront greenways. The park now houses new amenities including revamped picnic areas, bike racks, playgrounds, and a spray plaza.

NYC DOT installed jersey-barrier-protected lanes on Vernon Boulevard along the park during its closure in Fall 2023. While those on-street lanes will remain, the repaved paths within the park offer scenic views and a meandering path for more leisurely rides. Together, these paths serve as critical links in the Queens Waterfront Greenway, which will ultimately connect Gantry Plaza State Park to Fort Totten with 16-miles of two-way biking and walking paths.
