The Department of Design and Construction is set to begin a project that will improve safety at the intersection of East 177th Street, Devoe Avenue and East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. According to DDC, construction will begin in late 2025, and will require about three years to complete.

In order to improve safety along the clogged corridor for all road users, the project will shorten pedestrian crossings, add new sidewalks and curbs, upgrade street lighting, enhance traffic signals, add street trees, and update the water main and sewage system. The project will also include road resurfacing from Starlight Park to Bronx River Park along the Bronx River Greenway—a key link the City's greenway system.

In addition to DDC, the project involves collaboration with the city's Department of Education, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation (DOT) as well as the state DOT. The much-needed reconstruction was first proposed in 2008. According to Crash Mappers data, at least 246 car crashes involving 358 injuries and two deaths have occurred at this intersection since 2011.
