Either Astoria Blvd, or Ditmars/82nd St - please help!!! There are countless pedestrian and cyclists issues here and this is not safe for anyone; cars are out of control and there are never ending tragedies occurring here on a daily basis.
Please explore a way for cyclists to safely get into Upper Ditmars from East Elmhurst, either through 82nd St/Ditmars Blvd, or up Astoria Blvd. Thank you!
Hi. This area is extremely dangerous, not just for cyclists, but for pedestrians. It is not even safe to walk across the street! Drivers are extremely aggressive and this area seems to bring out the worst in drivers. This may just be the worst intersection in the five boroughs. If not a bike lane here, how about dedicated green pedestrian crossings, while the traffic lights remain red in all directions? People cannot even cross on the eastbound side of Astoria Blvd. and 82nd St., with the cars making a left on Astoria Blvd. from 82nd St./Ditmars. Please please for the love of humanity, help this intersection!!!
There needs to be pedestrian and biking protection at this intersection - at a minimum, dedicated crossing for pedestrians, which cyclists could use. People can't even walk across Astoria Boulevard and 82nd St without risking their lives. Cars have taken over this area, and there at a minimum, needs to be pedestrian only green crossing lights, with all traffic lights red. Then bike lanes up through 82nd St and into Ditmars Boulevard, from East Elmhurst, into Upper Ditmars. Thanks.
Northern Boulevard should be given a complete "Great Streets" style redesign, providing paved and curbed protected bike lanes stretching all the way from Flushing via the Roosevelt Ave bridge through Citi Field, down Northern Blvd to the Queensboro Bridge entrance. Along Northern Blvd, bike lanes should deflect inward around bus stops creating bus stop islands for passengers while keeping bike lanes clear (refer to Mile End Rd in London, UK as a prime example). This would create another major bike route through Queens (in addition to Queens Blvd) connecting major centers of Flushing, Jackson Heights, Astoria, and LIC, and showcase everyday bike commuting as an attractive and safe alternative to car transport.
This crossing is a dangerous bike trail crossing a high-speed highway onramp. This route MUST be grade separated to eliminate the high likelihood of severe accidents in this portion of the route. Please implement a bike/pedestrian bridge!
37th Ave is a busy commercial strip. There are many pedestrians and people riding bikes. Double parking often makes this street incredibly dangerous for people on bikes. A protected bike lane could mitigate unsafe driver behavior and provide a means for local residents to better access shops on this street.
Happy to hear that Ditmars Blvd will get physically protected bike lanes west of 27th Avenue all the way to 82nd St and up to 20th Avenue. Please implement these ASAP. Northwestern Queens is in dire need of on-street protected bike lanes!
34th Avenue west of 70th Street has plenty of room for protected bike lanes all the way to Broadway. Please implement asap!
34th Avenue east of 111th Street has plenty of room for parking protected bike lanes in both directions. Furthermore, the intersection of 34th Avenue and 114th Street/GCP Exit Ramp should be further improved for those biking and walking through this critical and unsafe juncture.
