We Want Your Input on NYC's Truck Route Network

The NYC Truck Route Network is a system of designated roads that helps commercial vehicles navigate the city efficiently. It aims to:

Connect primary freight origins and destinations.
Maximize access to industrial and commercial zones.
Minimize conflicts with residential areas and vulnerable road users.

This network is crucial for supporting the local economy and livability by:

Organizing neighborhood truck activity
Reducing traffic congestion on non-designated routes

Feedback Guidance:

We want to hear from you, help us identify how and where we can improve the movement of trucks on our city streets.

Options for feedback:

Confusing Truck Route Signage: A Unclear or inaccurate posted truck route signage
Missing Truck Route Signage: A lack of adequate signage to help guide trucks to and along designated truck routes.
Poor network connection: Areas with inadequate truck route network connectivity, often leading truck drivers to deviate from designated truck routes.
Weight & Height Restrictions: Overweight and/ or over-dimensional trucks are often observed.
Limited Curb Access: Trucks observed blocking moving, bike, or bus lanes; or have limited access to curbs for loading and unloading purposes.
Narrow Roadway: Limitations by the physical characteristics of the street, such as narrow roadway
Difficult Truck Turn: Limitations by the physical characteristics of the street, such as sharp turns
Maintenance Needed: Substandard road conditions, such as potholes, uneven surfaces, or lack of maintenance.
Limited Truck Parking: Shortage of designated parking spaces for trucks.
Observed Bicyclist and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of bicycle and truck conflicts occurred
Observed Pedestrian and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of pedestrian and truck conflicts occurred
Speeding Truck: Locations where trucks are observed speeding along the street or intersection
Health and Environmental Impact: Locations with air quality, general health, and environmental concerns

Difficult Truck Turn

Broadway - West 204 St - West 207 St

Trucks and buses often have difficulty making the turn from Broadway to go south on W 207th St. Cars going north on W 207 towards Broadway ignore the stop line at the traffic light. The line needs to be moved back further, and ideally the road is painted with block the box markings to help prevent drivers from stopping too close to the intersection.

Van Brunt St - Reed St - Pedestrian And Bike Path Link

Oversized trucks get stuck at the end of Van Brunt with no options to turn around. Police often assist them in getting out but rarely cite the illegal oversized trucks that cause a massive backup.

Aggressive trucks and buses do not give cyclists adequate space when passing. This is a shared bike lane road.

Speeding trucks regularly run this light that is a major pedestrian crossing.

Broadway - West 236 St - West 237 St

Trucks occasionally get stuck under the elevated subway tracks on this stretch of Broadway, between W 231 St and Van Cortlandt Park. This area needs better signage near the thruway exits, and potentially devices on Broadway to alert oversized vehicles to an upcoming change in clearance (like what they have on the Hutchinson River Pkwy in Westchester).

Flatbush Ave - 5 Ave - Dean St

Difficult truck turn at an odd angle and people crossing Flatbush here from south side at 5th ave get trucks flying through intersection and poor visibility for truck drivers to notice pedestrians

Cropsey Ave - Bay 26 St - 21 Ave

Cars and trucks constantly crash here. Cropsey is wide, trucks speed across to get past signals.

I’ve seen so many near misses with cars and trucks and pedestrians. This areas needs shorting crossing distances for pedestrians and protection.

Dean St - 5 Ave - Flatbush Ave

Pedestrians are blocked by trucks from crossing the street here because the trucks get backed up and are too long for this small intersection, pedestrians observed daily having to push strollers into traffic to cross around the trucks

Narrow Roadway

Narrow one-way primarily residential street with a major bike lane, too small for trucks.
