There are multiple schools in the area and a school directly on this block. The signage needs to be updated to show it is a school zone and trucks need to lower their speed. there is also not sufficient space for the trucks to make the turn onto 39th street from 4th and other avenues.
Seen multiple trucks here trying to turn and causing traffic jams for at least half an hour or more.
There is a school on this block, but there is not signage requiring a lower speed limit. It's also a truck route and we often see trucks speeding down the block, making it unsafe. In addition, the cross walk light at 39th and 5th has been knocked down multiple times this year.
Trucks don't have enough room to turn from 5th onto 39th Street and as a result, many have knocked down the cross walk. There is a school on 39th Street, another one at 38th, and a third at 40th, meaning many children and their families cross here, but it's not a safe crosswalk.
Trucks coming off the BQE drive up this street even though it's not a designated truck route. There is a school but there's very little signage. There is not adequate space for trucks to turn onto 5th Ave, causing a lot of traffic to backup.
Union St is used as an active truck route, even though it is not designated as such, by loud, speeding construction trucks (cement mixers are a constant presence). These trucks create back-up on a busy, narrow residential street and produce dangerous traffic conditions for pedestrians.
Frequent sightings of illegal 53-foot trucks in this area (and throughout Bushwick). These trucks sometimes get stuck trying to turn onto Flushing Ave from Morgan Ave. As far as I can tell there is no enforcement of the 53-foot truck surface road restriction.
More signs and speed bumps on 1st street between 4th & 5th avenues
inadequate loading zones cause regular 53' trailer deliveries to CVS to block bike lane.
inadequate use of loading/waiting areas within navy yard causes trucks to mount curb and park half in the bike lane to wait for access to navy yard. inadequate street furniture/tree plantings/bollards fail to separate traffic types.
