Difficult Truck Turn
Difficult Truck Turn
Greenpoint Ave - Bradley Ave - Queens

Traveling westbound on Greenpoint Ave and attempting any right turn whether it’s on Bradley ave or star ave is completely unsafe for trucks. The right turn in Bradley ave especially has been made worse with the addition of a Citi bike stand on that very corner. For such a vital roadway for the commercial business in blissville to be ignored for so long with safety is deplorable. As a resident of blissville for over 25 years it’s something we’ve come accustomed to but the whole area here is like the Wild West.

Tractor trailer turning in any direction on the intersection have difficult times turning. The turns are too tight in the designated turn lanes causing trailer and straight trucks to turn excessively wide into other lanes in order to make the turns.

Roosevelt Ave - Queens Boulevard - Queens

There is no signage indicating low height restrictions. Signs are only located on the subway stations along the route of Roosevelt ave. Most of the low hanging trusses along Roosevelt ave have no signage on any of the through routes that cross Roosevelt ave. As said on a previous comment along 58th street and Roosevelt, tractor trailers getting stuck along this route is common. Only trucks of a height of 12-6 fit under Roosevelt.

There is no truck parking here if the proposed bike lane will further exacerbate the current parking situation for the trucks doing deliveries to the CVS and Dunkin’ Donuts here. Most trucks have to either park in the bus stop or double park just a bit ahead of the bus stop causing the bus to merge across 2 lanes of traffic to continue down the road.

46-02 queens Blvd. This corner needs to be addressed, there’s a bus stop on the corner going eastbound on queens Blvd and a taxi relief zone on the west end corner of 46th street. There are no loading zones for tractor trailers or straight trucks to safely attempt deliveries. Trucks are either forced to park in the bus stop or double park along side the taxi lane causing unsafe turning onto 46th street or making people stand in the street to get onto the bus. The cities proposed protected bike lanes here will further the unsafe conditions at this corner.

Greenpoint ave is a truck through route. Whenever the super market here receives deliveries it either causes a choke point when the truck double parks for deliveries or when it does have a chance to actually park, the parking zone is not long enough for the tractor trailer to park causing it to park in the crosswalk causing a hazard. The city tried to make 46th street between queens Blvd and Greenpoint ave as the loading zone but it’s not big enough to support trucks. Straight trucks at a standard 30 feet length cannot park on 46th street. Mostly because regular passenger cars park in the loading zones to go shopping here.

58th street and Roosevelt ave are local truck routes but do not support tractor trailers. Every few months a trailer gets stuck under the train and has to get towed out.

Parkside Ave - Ocean Ave - Parkside Court

Parkside needs a change in curbside rules to facilitate local businesses and community safety. When the grocery store is receiving deliveries, especially during morning commutes, the crosswalks are blocked, cars are bumper to bumper and bicyclist have no room to pass through. Cars parked seem to force the trucks to double park. In addition this is the start of a bus route so one or two parked buses are frequently present.

Trucks threaten pedestrian walking on sidewalks and crossing the avenue on 4th Ave and 12th street. Suggesting to re-route trucks to 3rd Ave only.
