This intersection of Ocean Ave and Caton Ave is congested and dangerous to pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Oversize 18-wheeler trucks and construction vehicles go up and down this road all hours of the day and night, speeding, honking and spewing black smoke and grime into the air. This is a road with one lane of traffic on each direction and it is too narrow for trucks to be on the same road as city buses (B16), a subway stop (Church Avenue), two schools, the soccer and baseball fields at Parade Grounds, playgrounds and residential buildings. 18 wheelers don't belong on two-lane residential streets. It is unsafe and it causes non stop traffic back ups because there is not enough room for trucks, buses and people all in one place.
There is a busy subway stop entrance on Caton Ave here (Church Ave B and Q trains) and the non-stop flow of heavy, oversize 18-wheeler trucks make it dangerous. the trucks are often too long to get through the traffic light and they block the crosswalk and make it a dangerous traffic nightmare. Pedestrians and bicyclists get sideswiped and are put in danger constantly. The trucks speed through this road that has one lane in each direction as if it is a high speed highway. Very poor planning to have this narrow residential road be open to trucks.
The extra long/large capacity/ heavy duty trucks take too long, too much space, and block the intersections for Extended periods of time. They block 3 lanes of traffic and pedestrians cannot pass. This a block with large families and the pollution, air and noise as well as safety concerns from near misses are substantial.
The noise and black smoke and soot from giant trucks on this residential street is unfair and unbearable. My windowsills are coated with black soot from the never-ending stream of trucks and my kids are developing asthma and breathing problems. There are two schools on this stretch of roadway along with playgrounds and the Parade Grounds/Prospect Park soccer fields. Not only is it dangerous to cross the street here to get to the playgrounds because of dirty, speeding trucks but the trucks bellow smoke and grime which is probably toxic directly into the playgrounds, schools and apartment buildings along this road.
Trucks should not be routed on Caton Ave.. Two schools are located on Caton Ave. and apart from the schools. The stretch of Caton Ave. is entirely residential. The truck traffic is intense and generates a tremendous amount of noise and air pollution. The houses are over 100 years old and shake from the weight of the trucks that go by. The street and the houses are not built for the weight of all the trucks. The amount of the trucks leave is considerable and the noise from the trucks goes on all day and into the night, the truck should be rerouted onto a street that is zoned And built for commercial use.
This intersection is too narrow and too difficult a turn for these large capacity, extra long, heavy duty trucks. They obscure the road. Block pedestrian and vehicular traffic for Extended periods of time. Lots of car honking, confusion, and pollution. These blocks are not on the truck Route. There are no loading zones on these blocks either.
This is one of the most uneven, potholed, pitted roads in Brooklyn. It does not seem that it can support the weight of 18-wheeler heavy trucks because it has waves and bumps in the asphalt as high as one-foot tall snowdrifts. The noise from the 18-wheelers going over this road is deafening and you can hear every single wheel hitting every bump all day and all night making it difficult to sleep.
This street is too narrow to have 18-wheeler trucks in addition to city buses and car traffic. The trucks fly down this road hitting every single bump and pothole and do not pay attention to young children, pedestrians and seniors crossing into the playgrounds and ballfields and subway station (Church Ave B, Q) on this roadway. I have seen people, bicycles and cars get hit and sideswiped. Very dangerous!
Overweight/heavy duty/extra long capacity trucks are using Nichols Avenue as a through way. Always Hispanic males and never delivering on this street. The streets they should be using are atlantic avenue, crescent street, Jamaica Avenue, or rockaway Boulevard. They also hold up traffic turning on Fulton Street which is too narrow
Caton Avenue is one lane in each direction. It cannot accommodate 18-wheeler trucks and dump trucks in addition to being a bus route and an entrance to a subway stop that goes directly past elementary and middle schools and the Parade Ground ballfields and playgrounds. This is a residential street that is plagued with noise, pollution and deeply pitted roads because of truck traffic.
