Tons of near-misses here in accidents between huge commercial trucks and cyclists / pedestrians. Need to stop letting huge commercial trucks through his intersection, they can barely make the turn anyway. Send them to the BQE, not Furman...
The NYC Truck Route Network is a system of designated roads that helps commercial vehicles navigate the city efficiently. It aims to:
Connect primary freight origins and destinations.
Maximize access to industrial and commercial zones.
Minimize conflicts with residential areas and vulnerable road users.
This network is crucial for supporting the local economy and livability by:
Organizing neighborhood truck activity
Reducing traffic congestion on non-designated routes
Feedback Guidance:
We want to hear from you, help us identify how and where we can improve the movement of trucks on our city streets.
Options for feedback:
Confusing Truck Route Signage: A Unclear or inaccurate posted truck route signage
Missing Truck Route Signage: A lack of adequate signage to help guide trucks to and along designated truck routes.
Poor network connection: Areas with inadequate truck route network connectivity, often leading truck drivers to deviate from designated truck routes.
Weight & Height Restrictions: Overweight and/ or over-dimensional trucks are often observed.
Limited Curb Access: Trucks observed blocking moving, bike, or bus lanes; or have limited access to curbs for loading and unloading purposes.
Narrow Roadway: Limitations by the physical characteristics of the street, such as narrow roadway
Difficult Truck Turn: Limitations by the physical characteristics of the street, such as sharp turns
Maintenance Needed: Substandard road conditions, such as potholes, uneven surfaces, or lack of maintenance.
Limited Truck Parking: Shortage of designated parking spaces for trucks.
Observed Bicyclist and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of bicycle and truck conflicts occurred
Observed Pedestrian and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of pedestrian and truck conflicts occurred
Speeding Truck: Locations where trucks are observed speeding along the street or intersection
Health and Environmental Impact: Locations with air quality, general health, and environmental concerns

Hi - I live on the corner of Furman and Old Fulton Street. This seems to be the most dangerous intersection in NYC. Every single day, without fail, we see a near accident between a pedestrian (generally a clueless tourist who has no idea that a 18-wheeler truck is barreling through the curved/blind intersection. Given the new welcome pavilion being erected at Pier 1 (opening this Fall), and how busy the area is already from the ferry and fulton landing (ferry, fulton ferry landing, etc), I think the city needs to restrict trucks from this intersection. You can't have 18-wheeler trucks whipping around a blind corner where there's 2 ice cream shops and a waterfront park. You're going to have a truck run over a little kid. Trucks are clearly taking advantage by using Furman Street instead of the BQE. The result is a loud, dangerous, and hectic scene at what's supposed to be the welcome entrance for the Brooklyn Bridge park. My suggestion - fully eliminate commercial trucks from Furman street. Then stop allowing Ubers from stopping at the middle of the intersection to drop people off - they are creating a ton of traffic and confusion right next to a critical pedestrian walkway. I see someone get nearly hit here every single day. Put pedestrians over trucks please! Thank you!!
Extremely unsafe
Chronic failure by speeding trucks to yield to pedestrian right of way at unsignaled crosswalk.
Trucks can't make this turn. Lots of illegal 53'ers don't help either
Trucks speeding, disregarding discontinuation of truck route
Bad corner for trucks to turn. Bus stop, many pedestrians. Is route necessary here?
Narrow road, lots of congestion, left turns snarl traffic
Day and night, this intersection is treacherous. Red lights are run constantly and visibility is limited. Trucks add particular congestion because they often block the intersection.
Multiple times a week, 53' tractor trailers attempt to navigate Norman Ave which is not a truck route. They cause traffic problems and cannot safely make turns onto an off of Norman Ave.
