Observed Pedestrian and Truck Conflict
Observed Pedestrian and Truck Conflict
Bergen St - 5 Ave - 4 Ave - Brooklyn

Bergen Street between 5th ave and 4th ave (and down to 3rd ave) is busy with trucks, pedestrians and bicyclists. I have loved on this block my whole life and am raising my children here as well. It is a very dangerous street due to the high truck traffic. Trucks should not be allowed on these 2 blocks of residential streets. It's confusing to me that this one stretch of 2 blocks is a truck route, a fire route, has a designated bike lane and is highly trafficked by children and adults walking to and from the busy Atlantic Ave/Pacific St train station and 5th Aves shopping and restaurants. No other residential street in the area also serves as a truck route. I don't think this should be a truck route. Please fix this dangerous and unfair situation.

Double-parked trucks on Chrystie result in cars driving into oncoming traffic to go around them -- very dangerous

Heavy traffic makes it dangerous for all on foot but particularly for elderly, disabled and children. I have been almost hit twice. Large trucks exacerbate this problem. Left turns onto Bergen by northbound vehicles on Fifth hold up traffic, irritates drivers and impairs visibility for vehicles turning right off Fifth onto Bergen. This also endangers walkers, baby buggies and dog walkers. Please address this issue asap.

Always oversized trucks traveling over speed limit. NO2 levels are consistently over 400 ppb, way over the legal limit.

Trucks often speed to make the traffic light. Vehicles of all kinds also frequently run red lights.

At the intersection of St John’s Place and New York Ave, road surface conditions are very bad. Trucks and vehicles often speed to make the traffic light, causing the adjacent buildings to vibrate and leading to dangerous situations with pedestrians and cyclists.

Kingsland Ave - Beadel St - Brooklyn

Truck drivers have gotten out of their trucks to ask individuals on the street to move their cars so they can turn. When they can't make the turn, they hold up traffic, and people on the avenue who can't get by start beeping. Additionally, a truck side-swiped a compact SUV in front of Mary's Bar, and it was almost totaled on one side. The car sat there for 2 weeks before someone finally towed it. This was around March 2024. Overall, there is a lot of commotion at this intersection basically daily.
