16 and 18 wheelers get stuck for 30 mins to an hour trying to take a right turn from beadel st to Kingsland Ave often sideswiping cars and are stuck at the mercy of kind neighbors that have to play traffic guard and assistant to get truck unstuck and complete the turn this happens 1-2 times a week on this intersection of beadel st and Kingsland Ave. Put sign no semi trucks down this area get it into truck GPS too
Large trucks and semitrail type trucks frequently blast their air horns when they are stuck in traffic on Atlantic Ave. Isn't it illegal for them to blow their horn on city streets? Neighbors on Atlantic are frequently woken up by these horns, often as early as 5:30 AM.
Trucks frequently speed on Atlantic Ave from the BQE entrance to Court st. It is dangerous and the downshifting can also be quite noisy for residents
Often as I am walking my dog and grandchildren, we have to back away from the curb in order to let a turning truck turn cut this corner, since Bergen Street is not very wide. It's especially upsetting that bikes should have to move onto the sidewalks as well to avoid turning trucks. Also, the noise they make barreling down our street between 5th and 4th Ave rattles the house and seems quite unnecessary given that the wider, and commercial, Atlantic Ave runs parallel only a two blocks blocks away. Not to mention that the narrowness of Bergen St makes it impossible for these trucks to pass local construction vans or other double parked delivery cars which results in a lot of idling and honking.
I live on East 7th Street, two houses down from Church avenue. I have two children and there are many children on our block who need to safely cross Church Avenue to get to school, park, or subway. Church avenue has become a dangerous route with trucks, and especially trucks that exceed the 53’ limits. They will be rushing to the entrance to the Prospect Expressway a block away. I’ve observed two of these 53’ tractor trailers get into an accident and the police who came did not issue tickets or enforce the laws against oversize trucks - instead they just rerouted traffic. I want my children to be safe and I’m very concerned about the out of control trucks coming down Church Avenue, especially illegal 53’ tractor trailers, and the complete lack of enforcement. Trucks should be limited here given all the children and already a pattern of accidents. Thank you for trying to make Brooklyn safer and reducing dangerous trucks.
This narrow roadway has restaurant sheds and parking on both sides of the street, an MTA bus stop, and is the central artery for ride share vehicles dropping off at Empire Stores/DUMBO house, service trucks, school buses from Dock Street, and passenger vehicles exiting DUMBO.
This street is filled with large potholes. DOT should make the entire streetscape cohesive. As it stands, some streets are designated with nice sidewalks and belgian blocks, meaning some are passable and others are not for pedestrians and drivers. Drivers also change their speeds depending on the tarmac as do pedestrians: I have to change my approach to every block depending on what has been restored and what has been left to sinkholes and broken sidewalks. The selection of what gets restored and what doesn't has left us with a mess.
Trucks barreling down the BQE and/or entering into Dumbo shake our 7 story brick building (b. 1889). The vibrations are equivalent to mini earthquakes.
Charter tour buses illegally parking in a Top View stop blocking the bike lane here.
Charter tour buses illegally park in the safety zones. They drop off passengers, wait for 30-60 min until pick up, or take a left turn onto Front St. to wait and park in the Top View bus lane, which the company is not using, blocking the bike lane. On the opposite side of Front street is the end of line MTA bus stop. And then there is the parade of school buses going to and from Dock Street. Plus, all manner of trucks are trying to get past the charter buses parked at York. The curb is broken here. Opposite York Street is also a parking garage, and between all of these commuter interests, plus the backup caused by buses trying to turn off Front onto Main street, creates a large chokehold.
