The amount of trucks on this street is unbearable and I can guarantee my sleep and overall well being has suffered as a result. This is a residential area. I’m sure there are reasons for the way things are now, but I’m begging anyone with influence to study how this can be mitigated, especially at night.
This intersection needs a pedestrian crosswalk badly!
Cars park in the painted pedestrian zone here all the time, especially overnight. They block people from crossing the street safely and block the Citi bike racks. I think this whole area should be surrounded by boulders so cars can’t intrude on it anymore
CONSTANT parking by cars and trucks at the entrance to the eastbound bike lane blocks the bike lane and slows down/blocks buses. This whole intersection is quite frankly a hot mess

I live on Bushwick Avenue between Metropolitan Avenue and Powers Street. This largely residential stretch already experiences extremely heavy and disruptive through-truck traffic, including engine noise, braking, acceleration, honking, idling, and building vibrations at all hours. It significantly affects residents’ sleep, safety, and quality of life. I am concerned that converting Grand Street and Metropolitan Avenue into paired one-way streets could increase the number of trucks using Bushwick Avenue to circulate between the two corridors, particularly around the intersection of Bushwick Avenue and Grand Street. NYC DOT should prohibit through-truck traffic on Bushwick Avenue between Metropolitan Avenue and Powers Street, while preserving access for legitimate local deliveries and services. At minimum, this project should include truck-volume studies, overnight noise monitoring, truck-turn restrictions where feasible, clear “No Through Trucks” or “Local Deliveries Only” signage, and a commitment to prevent additional truck traffic from being diverted onto Bushwick Avenue. This is already a serious safety concern. Over the ten years I have lived here, I have seen multiple incidents involving trucks and cyclists on Bushwick Avenue, including at least one fatal collision. Any redesign should reduce these dangers rather than intensify truck use on an overwhelmingly residential corridor.

Biking south on Union opens up a lot of the neighborhood to me, but it is impossible to do without putting my whole body on high alert. Being sandwiched between the truck traffic and parked cars makes me feel unsafe.
The sharrows here feel like a trap. The volume of trucks and conflict points make biking on this stretch feel super dangerous. I always opt to walk my bike from the citibike dock here at least a block before riding.
This whole intersection feels unsafe and unpleasant. The crossing across Metropolitan here especially feels like a trap. It is poorly marked and I get the impression it doesn't mesh well with the light timing--every time I attempt to cross with the signal it feels like cars are coming at me.
