The pedestrian crossing here is very dangerous and the crosswalks do not align with any curb cuts, forcing wheelchair users and anyone pushing a cart to veer into traffic to reach the sidewalk.
If Verona Street could become 2 way only between Imlay and Van Brunt, residents of 160 Imlay would not have to drive further into Red Hook, specifically to King Street, then to Pioneer before turning onto Imlay get to the front of 160 Imlay which I need to do in order to drop my elderly relative at the building.
The new development in the neighborhood is bringing an increasing amount of traffic to VanBrunt st. ( In a 5 minute period I stopped counting at 75 Amazon delivery vans.) VanBrunt is where neighborhood residents go to shop and eat, funneling all this new commercial traffic onto VanBrunt impacts residents quality of life and pedestrian safety. ( My partner was clipped at this intersection by a truck making a left turn onto VanBrunt ) It would be great if the new traffic could use a different route.
I'll add to the chorus of concern about this intersection. So unsafe. This intersection needs a traffic light so speeding vehicles and trucks don't blow through it and endanger everyone.
The crosswalk here is so dangerous. There is no visibility for drivers to see pedestrians who are waiting above the BQE because they are behind a fence. Drivers also *routinely* blow red lights here; if someone were in the crosswalk they would be seriously hurt. I think all these crosswalks along both sides of the BQE need to be redesigned for safety.
This intersection has always been awful and now has only gotten worse. There is no stop sign or traffic light - I fear every time I or my children need to cross. It’s especially concerning given that there is a playground on the block and will soon be a new 3K center. Traffic is backed up for blocks in both directions, but primarily north bound on Columbia - large trucks and vehicles. City busses swerve around to try to get through, often proceeding in the opposite lane. Traveling anywhere by car from our house has become impossible - we sit on Columbia in traffic for upwards of 15 min longer than we ever had in the past.
Please add a traffic light here
This is a horribly dangerous crosswalk section. We see a lot of fast, large trucks and vehicles and the blindspots are aggressive, yet the foot traffic is enough to necessitate a stop light.
This is such a dangerous intersection! I always feel nervous when crossing with my kids (and oftentimes end up walking a couple of extra blocks to cross in a safer spot) but I've seen other pedestrians (including young teenagers without adults) dart across the street with cars coming at an unsafe speed. Please add a stoplight here, it truly seems like it's only a matter of time until an accident happens.
I’ve lived in this area for 20 years. The pedestrian crosswalks over the east side of Hicks St. are simply too dangerous. If you, as a pedestrian, are not familiar with the area you could easily walk out and be hit by a vehicle running a red light. I see these cars run red lights every time, which is daily, I am at a crosswalk on Hicks St. The crossings on Union St. and from the Summit St. walk bridge are notorious for speeders and red light runners. There is zero police enforcement even though the local precinct is a block away. For pedestrians there is virtually no signage alerting drivers to the fact that these are crosswalks that empty immediately into the roadway. The drivers are so intent driving on Hicks St. to Atlantic to beat the traffic on the BQE below they endanger the pedestrians every single day. This issue has been ongoing for decades. Every day the DOT waits to solve this problem with enforcement, signage and crosswalk redesign is another day adults and children are at risk of being maimed or killed.
