As someone commented, 138th is a peaceful street. That’s precisely why we wouldn’t want additional traffic on the block. Removing parking there would be really inconvenient for those who have to drive given how few spaces to park there are uptown. Having this installed on a main avenue is a better option for long time residents (renters and owners) on 138th St.
People from three boroughs travel to Randalls Island for track, baseball, events, and all year tennis. John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) provides tennis. Many parents from the academy need to travel to the island from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens. There is bus service on the island but its very limited The island has an extensive bike path. Most importantly, a plethora of parents are demanding Citibikes on the Island to get over the bridge to their borough. This is a great opportunity. The bikes can be stationed near JMTA.
