An e-scooter parking corral located on the sidewalk of White Plains Road.

A key takeaway from over three years of e-scooter share operations in New York City is that designated parking corrals lead to more organized parking by e-scooter riders. Parking corrals help minimize sidewalk clutter by providing a space for e-scooters to be parked. GPS and in-app technology requires riders to end their trip in designated spaces like parking corrals. Corrals are listed in each operator’s smartphone app and marked on the street or sidewalk with paint and signs.

New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is working with local stakeholders in the e-scooter share service areas, as well as looking at travel data to identify areas that would benefit from designated parking corrals. This public feedback portal allows residents to suggest preferable scooter corral locations by placing a pin on the map. The maps to suggest additional e-scooter share parking in the East Bronx and Eastern Queens are currently open for feedback.
