Project Overview

Two people riding e-scooters.

Electric scooters (e-scooters) became legal in New York City in November 2020. New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) piloted an e-scooter share program in the East Bronx from August 2021 - August 2023. The program allows people to rent publicly available e-scooters for short term trips. After a successful pilot, e-scooter share transitioned to a long-term program and expanded to Eastern Queens in 2024. Three operators, Bird, Lime, and Veo, are participating in the current program.

In some parts of the service area, shared e-scooters can be parked on the sidewalk within the furniture zone (the area closest to the roadway where tree pits, signs, bike racks, etc are located). Shared e-scooters are required to park in designated parking corrals in other parts of the service area. Please see our live map of e-scooter parking and riding zones in the "Presentations & Maps" tab on our website.

This website is designed to collect feedback on where the public would like to see additional e-scooter parking corrals. For more general feedback regarding the program, please email scooter.share@dot.nyc.gov.
