In 2020, the New York City Council passed Local Law 74 (PDF) , mandating that the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) create a pilot for a shared e-scooter system in New York City. The law specifies that the pilot will not occur in Manhattan and will prioritize areas underserved by Citi Bike , New York City’s docked bike share program. The pilot will last at least one year and no more than two years. During this time, NYC DOT will evaluate shared e-scooters as a viable transportation option in NYC and monitor scooter operators’ ability to keep their fleet maintained and out of the public right of way.

As a part of this pilot, NYC DOT is looking for feedback on where people would like to see parking areas for e-scooters. The "Suggest Scooter Parking" feedback map is available for people to point out specific intersections or places that would benefit from having designated scooter parking.
