The consideration by the NYCDoT to introduce a bike path along 5th Avenue and to shunt vehicles off 5th Avenue between 57th and 34th St on 5th Ave is truly concerning. As a hotel operator of 55th St and 5th we have already been impacted by the bike path on 55th St which has caused harm to pedestrians, guests and employees alike. Furthermore at a time when we need to be encouraging a return to normalcy for NYC and to support the commercial stores, offices, hotels and businesses along 5th Ave and its side streets this is not the time to limit traffic flow without a more strategic and business friendly (employment friendly) process. NYC has been greatly impacted by the pandemic and it is time for local govt to support the business community to ensure more businesses don't close or move out of the city, and that further jobs and tax dollars are not lost. Please involve the business community in any such steps that re-imagine NYC.

As with many decisions this administration has made this is detrimental to the businesses that operate on and around 5th Avenue (midtown). Maintaining through car traffic on Fifth Avenue is important and essential for the ongoing success of restaurants, retail and office buildings. The city has been adversely affecting businesses by taxing and regulations why add more negative impact by reducing car traffic. Shouldn't you be trying to preserve jobs!!!

Closing down 5th Avenue will have implications for access for guests to the hotel and other parts of the city. This will be detrimental to our business.

The idea of the 5th Avenue Busway is a terrible idea. This will cause more traffic in neighboring avenues which will then cause the DOT to think of a plan of shutting them down. Please stop taking measures that will increase traffic and in the end your obvious attempt to get rid of private vehicles in NYC. It's enough already, let people that want to drive drive and those that don't take public transportation. Squeezing the options out of the public will only encourage more New Yorkers to leave the city.

The volume of traffic does not permit for any further lanes being lost.

We are an independent restaurant on 55th Street, off of 5th Avenue and it is very important to us that our distributors, employees, and customers are able to utilize 5th Avenue as a roadway and NOT as a bus lane and bike lane. Our street (55th) was recently given a bike lane, which I supported, however bicyclists have flaunted basic decency as they go both ways on the street, bike at high speeds, and show absolutely no regard for pedestrian safety. It has become a major concern for us and we feel helpless as neither DOT nor Traffic Police seem willing or able to address the situation. I hope you would consider adding speed bumps on the bike lanes on 55th Street and not further antagonize retail businesses that are already struggling with reduced foot traffic, with further traffic restrictions on our main thoroughfare and lifeline.
